8 Friendship Building Activities You Can Plan Yourself

Friendships develop over time, but if you want to build a bond quicker with someone new, choose some activities that provoke conversation and of course, fun! Get a little wild or go outside of your comfort zone - when you do, your new friends will appreciate how much you have shared with them and it will encourage them to do the same. Stuck for ideas on what to do? Here are 8 tips to get you started, brought to you by ZookCity, a mobile social event planner for connecting with friends in real life:

    Try out a new restaurant

Food is something everyone has in common; everyone has to eat or loves to eat! A good meal followed by great conversation can help new friends form a quick, lasting bond. This can even be a fun monthly or weekly activity with your group.

    Organize a potluck

A potluck is a great way for everyone to get to know one another’s personality through their unique dishes!

Vote on a movie to see at the theater

Movies are a great way for everyone to relieve themselves of day-to-day stress, and be entertained for a few hours. Get some friends together and decide on a film – it’s a great activity for friendships of all levels because it’s low pressure and provokes conversation later.

    Attend a live performance

If you and your friends share a love for theater, or live music, organize a get-together at an upcoming show. Community theater is great alternative for performance lovers on a budget.

    Historical tour of your city

Historical tours are a great way to get to know your town, and each other. Nearly every city has some special attraction honoring its past; status, historical homes, gardens, etc. Some cities even have haunted tours! Look up the Chamber of Commerce or historical society in your area for details.

    Photo tour

Gather some friends and cameras and spend a day around town taking pictures. You’ll get to take in the beauty of nature and structures while creating some lasting mementos, and bonding with your group by comparing shots.

    Board games/Group video games

Games are a great way to bring a group of friends together. There are a variety of fun and diverse board and video games that cater to a wide range of ages and interests, and are designed for groups and parties.

    Wine+Cheese tasting

Tastings are a great way to show your new friends how refined you are, and to teach them a few interesting tricks as well. Do some research on a few different kinds of wine, and consult your local sommelier on what would pair best with them. For those who are lactos intolerant, fruits, meats, preserves and breads are good pairs as well.
