Gucci Kids Line Combines Kids Clothes With UNICEF

When Gucci kids line was created in 2010, it provided buyers the opportunity to have luxury when purchasing kids clothes. It also was the catalyst for good in the lives of less fortunate children, when in celebration of its launch, the company decided to donate US $1million to UNICEF’s ‘Schools for Africa’ initiative. The pledge funds were specifically focused on Mozambique and Malawi, where Creative Director Frida Giannini traveled and had seen how these funds were helping children.

Gucci kids line beginning

The launch of this line was not just the beginning of Gucci’s foray into becoming a premier designer of kids clothes, but was also the beginning of Gucci using its platform as a known brand to create many other opportunities to help children.

Back when the line was first created and Gucci was looking for a spokesperson who could be it’s representative, the choice of singer Jennifer Lopez was one that made sense. Since Ms. Lopez was a mother of two children in the age range of the line and a philanthropist focusing on the needs of children as well, the partnership was a perfect fit. Ms. Lopez stated she was inspired by the idea of connecting a children’s collection to build on Gucci’s long term commitment to UNICEF. Through the partnership, Gucci also donated US $50,000 to Ms. Lopez’s family foundation, whose mission is to improve the health and well-being of women and children and increase medical care for them. Ms. Lopez began her relationship with Gucci by attending a fundraising event which eventually ended up raising over $US 2.7 million for UNICEF.

About the kids clothes line

The popularity of designer clothing for children has grown. Reasons for this growth sometimes have to do with clothing but often times there are other factors at play. In an article published by the Data monitor Group, a market research organization, it was stated that many parents tend to show their economic status through their children. When that desire, along with a desire to insulate their kids from economic constraints, the spending will go towards the kids. This translates to increase business for design houses of kids clothes.

The Gucci kids line collection consists of apparel, footwear, small leather goods and various accessories. There are two age ranges for the collection, 0-2 and 2-8 and are available in select Gucci operated stores.

Creative director Ms. Giannini revealed that initially she had concerns with launching a kids line considering the brand’s themes of attitude and glamour. Designing a line for children that reflects the tradition of the brand is not an easy task. Particularly for a brand such as Gucci, known for its glamour. However, it was the history of Gucci that became he inspiration for it. She included into the collection the brand’s double G logo with elements of the equestrian world added in.

The designs are produced in Italy and incorporate historical Gucci signatures as the red and green band, equestrian hardware and the interlocking Gs, first established by the brand in the 1960’s. The equestrian roots being incorporated was originally established by the brand in the 1950’s. It has been stated that Gucci kids are kids who want comfortable clothing but with style and materials used that are classic.

With the kids clothes line inspired by Gucci’s commitment to UNICEF’s Schools for Africa initiative, a gift that lasts forever, education is able to be given through the collection.

Each year, Gucci has intensified the company’s commitment to UNICEF and to saving and improving children’s lives by expanding the annual campaign and introducing significant new initiatives to support the partnership.
