RE: BuzzFeed APPLICATION 6 TV Show Bullies From The 90's That Are Totally Misunderstood

Walk a mile in some of our favorite cartoon TV bullies' shoes. They may be more 3-dimensional than you think!

1. Helga G. Pataki

HuffingtonPost / Via

Show: Hey Arnold! (1996-2004)

What She's Known For: Her relentless barking at every 4th grader in PS 118, punching the heavy-breathing Brainy in the cranium, and her borderline psychotic obsession with Arnold.

Why She's Misunderstood: There's an episode called "Helga on the Couch" (1999) in which she meets with the school psychiatrist twice a week. We learn that Helga is suffering from an inferiority complex in the shadow of her older sister, her father thinks only of his job, and her mother is a subtle alcoholic. All signs lead to child neglect and an unhappy kid. Feel bad now? Bullying is the only way Helga feels in control. Also, that unibrow would make anyone angry.

2. Squidward

MTV / Via

Show: Spongebob Squarepants (1999-present)

What He's Known For: His incessant nagging of Spongebob and Patricks antics, his lack of clarinet skills, and his constant RBF (Resting Bitch Face).

Why He's Misunderstood: How many of us grew up to be just like Squidward? *Raises Hands* Cynical, full of angst and struggling to make it "big", he represents the typical millennial. He simply appreciates the finer things in life. From classical music to Renaissance art, he's Chanel and these other broads are JCPenny. So excuuuuse him for wanting to be bougie in peace. Sure he may be pretentious, surly, condescending, arrogant, pessimistic, self-pitying, and rude....but there has to be some good qualities deep down in there. Right? Right.

3. Roger Klotz

Wikia / Via

Show: Doug (1991-1999)

What He's Known for: His hyena-level cackle and an uncanny resemblance to Macklemore.

Why He's Misunderstood: Roger has had a tough upbringing. His parents are divorced, he failed the 6th grade THRICE, and he lives with his single mother in a trailer park. He knew that if he didn't put the jokes on Doug, the jokes would've came crashing down on him sooner or later. This is a classic example of bullies projecting their own insecurities on others. Not saying it's right, just giving it some context. Besides, he secretly takes ballet classes, there's gotta be some warmth in that cold heart of his.

4. MoJo Jojo

Wikia / Via

Show: The Powerpuff Girls (1998-2005)

What He's Known For: His intimidatingly large vocabulary, his underwhelming stature, and his tendency to want world domination.

Why He's Misunderstood: 'Bully' may be a bit of an understatement. But Mojo Jojo is not even the product of his own evil. He's a science experiment gone wrong (thanks, Professor Utonium), so he quite literally has a chemical imbalance. Also, there's something kind of sad about a super genius being unable to succeed on any of his evil schemes. My final diagnosis? Napoleon complex to a sadistically evil level.

5. Angelica Pickles

Show: Rugrats (1990-2006)

What She's Known For: Terrorizing the best gang of babies there ever was with the help of her disheveled and expressionless accomplice Cynthia

Why She's Misunderstood: Look, the root of this issue is Angelica is lonely. She's way too mature for the babies and Susie Carmichael doesn't have time for her nonsense. Some might say she's controlling and bossy but Angelica just hasn't had the most experience making friends her own size. Her behavior is merely an only child defense mechanism. And who doesn't know an attention seeking 4-year-old?

6. Oscar the Grouch

Wikia / Via

Show: Sesame Street (1969-present)

What He's Known For: Not necessarily a bully, but definitely unpleasant.

Why He's Misunderstood: He lives in a trash can. We could stop there. But honestly, I think the community of Sesame Street are the REAL bullies here. Clearly the loving, generous community SS claims to be is a mere illusion. How do you have the audacity to dance and sing the ABC's while your friend Oscar is living among your garbage? Not cool, Big Bird. Not cool.
