Northern Territory photographer Matt Wright has always been the outdoorsy type. So when he earned his helicopter licence, he naturally gravitated towards flying over Australia's most untouched regions, deep in the country's Outback.

His job varies from day to day. Aside from the usual charter service, he's also involved in catching crocodiles and mustering cattle.

For his entry into the photo series Down Under From Above Wright described just how magical it is to fly over the Outback.

"The seasons up here change quite rapidly," he said. "Anything can happen in a day. You got nice, crisp blue skies in the morning. By that afternoon, you got dark storms rolling in over pristine green flood plains. It’s quite a scene."

Wright shared a selection of his photos to highlight how stunning the Australian landscape can be.

"This is one of my many photos of brumbies roaming the land in the peak of the wet season. They often run through waterways and get eaten by crocs. Many of my pictures of wild brumbies have accidentally captured a croc lurking next to them in the waters."

"I love this picture because it captures the complete calm of the water on one side of the waterfall and the chaos in the water on the other."
