These Images Of Sick Children Photoshopped In Christmas Settings Is What The Season Is All About
Only good vibes allowed.

Children in hospitals around the world were treated to a little bit of Christmas magic with a Santa photoshoot. More than 100 photographers, editors and assistants from Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the UK volunteered their time at local hospitals to create holiday-themed portraits for the sick kids.

The project is the brainchild of Karen Alsop, who in 2016 was asked by a mother to create a Christmas portrait for her young daughter at Melbourne's Monash Children's Hospital. Two years ago Alsop shot and edited 30 portraits by herself. Now, she's joined by hundreds of volunteer photographers and editors and she couldn't be happier.

"We’ve expanded the project around the world, which is an amazing feeling," Alsop told BuzzFeed News.
"This year it was a team effort with Photoshop artists creating backgrounds in the lead-up, and multiple Santas and teams. Such skilled, dedicated people giving up time and resources to bring joy to families, incredible."

This year, The Heart Project, a volunteer organisation dedicated to improving lives through the arts, has taken on Alsop's project and took the concept around the world.
More than 200 children were treated to holiday portraits.

Alsop told BuzzFeed about a boy, Cory, who she met in Adelaide last year. "The day we did Christmas Wish was his first day going home after being in hospital for an entire year. Cory entertained us with his love of technology and was obsessed with the Epson printer in 2017.
"This year he returned and his attention had turned to the camera. The joy as he photographed Santa!

"It's these moments that make me realise, this project is not just about a finished image, but about the experience the children have on the day."

Alsop said every child gets to spend quality time with Santa. Also, the making of the portraits from shoot to print is given a lot of love.

"Each photo background can take up to 20 hours to create in Photoshop. In the beginning, I was creating all the backgrounds for the photos but we now have volunteers around the world creating stunning backgrounds,” Alsop said.

This year Alsop returned to Monash Children's Hospital.
"The highlight for me is being able to bring joy to those going through difficult situations," she said.
