    1. Joan Risch, disappeared 1961

    Risch was 31 when she vanished from her Boston home, leaving nothing but blood on her kitchen floor. Her daughter ran to a neighbor that day, saying, "Mommy is gone and the kitchen is covered with red paint.'' Weeks prior, Risch had checked out a book from the library about a woman who disappeared and left nothing but blood and a towel.

    2. Fred Valentich, disappeared 1978

    The Australian man was flying a small plane when he told air traffic control about a strange object flying near him, got cut off mid-sentence, and vanished. Neither he nor his plane were ever found, and some believe he was taken away by a UFO.


    3. Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, disappeared 2014

    This Boeing 777 disappeared in 2014, but no one can confirm exactly what happened to this plane and the 239 people on board. Only some debris has been found, even after searchers scoured 46,000 feet of ocean floor.

    4. Cherrie Mahan, disappeared 1985

    She was the first child to be on the official "Have You Seen Me?" posters, after she disappeared from her bus stop one day after school. Her parents refuse to put an actual gravestone down for her until they learn what happened — currently, they're using an angel statue at the family's cemetery plot as a memorial.


    5. Asha Degree, disappeared 2000

    Drivers claim they saw the 9-year-old walking along North Carolina's Highway 18 around 4 a.m. in February 2000, but there's not much more information on the girl, who would now be 27. Police and the FBI announced this year that they're going to "beef up" the investigation on the case.


    6. Amy Lynn Bradley, disappeared 1998

    Amy Lynn Bradley went missing from a cruise ship while on vacation, after stepping out of her cabin for an early morning cigarette. A witness claimed to have seen her in a restroom in Barbados in 2005, but no one else has come forward.


    7. Brian Schaffer, disappeared 2006

    While on spring break in Ohio, the college student went to a bar with friends and completely disappeared. The bar had CCTV at all the entrances, so he was filmed entering — but never exiting.


    8. Dorothy Arnold, disappeared 1910

    The perfume company heiress was literally just walking down Fifth Avenue in New York City when she went missing. The most fucked-up part? Her mother feared that the incident would make for an embarrassing tale in the media, so she didn't report her daughter's disappearance for weeks. WEEKS.

    9. Jodi Huisentruit, disappeared 1995

    The Iowa reporter was on her way to work around 4:30 a.m. when she was presumably abducted. Her car key was found bent in the door lock, and evidence showed she fought hard against her abductor. Though she was declared dead in 2001, police still think there's a possibility of solving the case.

    The Ohio girl was 10 when she failed to return home from seeing a show at a local park. Every suspect in a possible kidnapping has been cleared, but in 2015 there was a small break in the case that was not disclosed to the public. It remains unsolved.


    11. Billy Hoag, Joey Hoag, and Craig Dowell, disappeared 1967


    Joey, 13, and Billy, 11, disappeared while heading to explore a small, nearby cave in Missouri, and Craig, 14, may have been with them. None of them returned home and they were all good friends, so it's possible they were together. No one can confirm much of what actually happened, which has made the case very difficult to solve.

    12. Mikelle Biggs, disappeared 1999


    While waiting for an ice cream truck in Mesa, Arizona, the 11-year-old went missing without a trace. Her mom called her and her sister inside, so her sister went ahead, and 90 seconds later, Mikelle was gone. The wheel on her bike was still spinning, and to this day no one knows what happened.


    13. Paige Renkoski, disappeared 1990

    She was last seen standing next to the car she drove on I-96 near an exit in Michigan. Later, her purse and shoes were found inside the abandoned car. Six months later, a letter and map were mailed to police, but the map was vague, so they aren't even sure if they were looking in the right spot.

    14. Laura Bradbury, disappeared 1984

    The 3½-year-old was camping with her family near Joshua Tree National Park in California in October 1984 when she went missing. Her brother had brought her with him to the campsite restrooms; he went inside, and when he came back out, she was gone. Police believe they found her skull in 1986, but whether or not it is actually Laura's has yet to be confirmed.

    15. Bobby Dunbar, disappeared 1912

    Bobby was 4 years old when he went missing during a fishing trip, and eight months later, police believed they had found him traveling with a man named William Walters. In 2004, DNA testing proved that the boy found was not Bobby Dunbar...and so the case remains unsolved.

    16. The Beaumont children, disappeared 1966

    Three Australian siblings, Jane, 9, Arnna, 7, and Grant, 4, went to the beach and never returned. They were seen playing with a man near the water, and a police officer said he saw them walking home around 3 p.m. Letters were later sent to their parents, saying they were being held hostage, but those were later found to be a hoax.


    17. Rebecca Coriam, disappeared 2011

    Also known as "Bex," the crew member on the cruise ship Disney Wonder was last seen taking a phone call that seemed stressful. Some say Disney is being extremely secretive about the information they have. The case is still under investigation.

    18. And the Sodder children, disappeared 1945

    Five of nine children disappeared after a fire demolished the Sodder family's home in West Virginia on Christmas Eve. The children's remains still haven't been found, over 70 years later.
