This year, Galentine’s Day lands on a Thursday — the perfect excuse to extend your celebration of female friendship into the weekend.

We've got you covered with recommendations on the best hotels, restaurants, and planned experiences for you and the gals. So travel far beyond your fave brunch spot with these getaway ideas!

    1. Laugh away your woes with female comics at Second City in Chicago, Illinois before exploring the city's female-led cocktail scene (The Violet Hour and Fat Rice lounges are a must).

    Location: Chicago, Illinois, USA

More to do: Learn how to make a boozy dessert cocktail while snacking on small bites at Hilton Chicago’s Galentine’s Day interactive cocktail session ($30 pp) on February 14th. Then, feast on creative pastries (hello, shakshuka croissants) at Bad Hunter or join their Palentine's Day Cookie Decorating Workshop on February 16th.

Where to stay: A stay at the Hilton Chicago ensures you're never too far from your pillow thanks to it's convenient location downtown.

    2. Go food truck-hopping in Austin! BBQ at Micklethwait Craft Meats, tacos at Veracruz All Natural, sweet treats at Bananarchy and Churro Co. — there's something for everyone in your squad.

More to do: Live out your brunch dreams at Better Half Bar with their Galentine’s Night Brunch: They’ll have sweet potato pancakes and cute BFF activities to help raise money for female empowerment organizations.

Where to stay: The LINE Hotel's “Perfect Party” package ($259+) gets you and the girls welcome drinks at their burger joint, snacks from the on-site cafe Alfred, an overnight stay, and a 1p.m. late checkout.

    3. Stroll the cobblestone streets of the Walled City and salsa at Café Havana in Cartagena, Colombia. With a surprising number of airlines that fly direct, this city makes for an easy tropical weekend getaway.

    4. Wine and dine in Napa Valley! Oxbow Public Market and French Laundry are a must for foodies, and don't miss Scribe Winery — tastings in their stunning hacienda come with charcuterie boards of foods grown on site.

    5. Snowshoe on Millennium Trail, skate at Midtown Brewing Company, tour the wineries (yes they’re open in the winter), and 'gram the ice-y beach at Sandbanks Provincial Park — all at Prince Edward County, Canada.

    6. Party it up in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico or, better yet, experience all the luxury that this region has to offer by booking spa treatments and lounging poolside at nearby resorts.

More to do: A growing farm-to-table food scene is worth tasting at Manta (started by Enrique Olvera of the infamous Pujol) and Acre Baja. At the very least, go to Acre Baja to check out the treehouse guest rooms that make the hotel a true "jungle oasis in the desert" (what the locals called it when I stayed there).

Where to stay: Private plunge pools, two infinity pools, AND a saltwater relaxation healing spa treatments inspired by Mexican folk rituals and the phases of the moon? The Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal offers some serious R&R.

    7. Treat yourself like a Goop goddess in New York City with a mani, superfood lattes, and an infrared sauna sesh at Chillhouse, followed by a Galentine's Day Drunk Yoga flow.

    8. Soak up all the art in Barcelona, Spain. Check out some of Picasso’s most famous pieces at the Museu Picasso and then view Antoni Gaudí’s one-of-a-kind architecture at the Sagrada Família and Park Güell.

More to do: Tapas is the perfect meal for sharing with the girls! Els Sortidors del Parlament offers innovative tapas (think black truffle and quail eggs) in a former motorcycle workshop, plus it’s apparently one of the best wine bars in the city.

Where to stay: With intricately embellished ceilings, sun-soaked rooftop terraces, and an unbeatable location, Alexandra Barcelona Hotel is a no-brainer.

    9. Practice yoga on the beach and explore the jungles in Bali, Indonesia.

    Location: Bali, Indonesia

More to do: Tour the bamboo forests at Green Village while learning how they transform wood into spectacular houses. Then, check out the recently opened Potato Head Studios — they'll soon offer every cultural activity you can think of (DJ dance parties, Balinese traditional wrestling lessons, woodcarving workshops, chocolate-making classes... you name it).

Where to stay: The Conrad Bali offers private plunge pools, a well-reviewed breakfast, and countless cultural activities (think cooking classes and language lessons) — all at a surprisingly affordable price ($149+).

    10. Have high tea in London, England. The Valentine’s Afternoon Tea service at the London Hilton on Park Lane, for example, makes for a super classy Galentine's Day affair.

More to do: Go vintage-hunting in Brick Lane or high-end shopping in Mayfair. End the day with pink fizz, express mani’s, and street food snacks at Winterland London’s Galentine’s Party ($9 pp).

Where to stay: Set in a regal 19th century building, the London EDITION – with its giant marble columns, ornate ceilings, and velvet décor – is the place to be and be seen.

    11. Go jazz bar-hopping and shopping in New Orleans, Louisiana (French Market and United Apparel Liquidators are a must).

    12. Go skiing in Megève, France, for 400 km of mixed-ability slopes and epic views of the French Alps. Don't miss the après-ski dance party at La Folie Douce for infectious beats and some seriously Insta-worthy outfits.

    13. Hike all the trails in Sedona, Arizona! The Bell Rock Trail is a classic while several more insta-worthy trails are a bit harder, but definitely worth the challenge.

And worst case scenario? Simple binge on romantic travel movies for some much-needed Netflix & Chill.
