10 Times Halloween Costumes Took It Way Too Far

Whatever happened to being a good ol’ fashioned pirate, pumpkin or princess?

    1. Sexy Ebola Containment Suit / Via

A costume website called Brands on Sale has only gone and created a Sexy Ebola Containment Suit costume for a mere $59.99. God knows why.

I mean Hazmat chic? Really? Reaaaaallly? Any description that leads in with, "As the deadly ebola virus trickles through the United States" is probably A BAD IDEA.

    2. Ray Rice

Rivalling all things Ebola-related for the title of most tasteless Halloween costume this year is an outbreak of ill-advised Ray Rice-themed ensembles.

It doesn't seem possible to make the Ray Rice Halloween costume even more offensive, but a shocking number of which feature the wearers proudly posing in blackface.

In early September a disturbing video surfaced of the football player punching his now-wife Janay Rice unconscious in an Atlantic City casino elevator months earlier.

Rice received professional retribution in the form of a terminated contract but was accepted into a special program for first-time offenders.

Halloween Tip: Don't go as Ray Rice.

    3. Asiana Stewards

In what may be one of the most offensive Halloween costumes in 2013, a group of men dressed up as bloodied flight attendants from the Asiana Airlines crash, managing to mock a tragic accident and display blatant racism.

As if that wasn't offensive enough, the trio added nametags identifying themselves as Sum Ting Wong, Ho Lee Fuk, and Wi Tu Lo, names borrowed from the wildly inappropriate joke that erroneously made its way onto San Francisco's KTVU broadcast about the crash.

First, do not dress up as victims in a plane crash. Second, do not assign your victims racist names. That is all.

    4. Boston Marathon Runner

You can add "Boston Marathon bombing victim" to the growing list of offensive and idiotic Halloween costumes that we've seen.

Alicia Ann Lynch, a 22-year-old from Michigan, tweeted and instagrammed a photo of herself at work dressed as a Boston Marathon bombing victim for Halloween. Her costume consisted of running shorts and a race number attached to her chest, blood running down her face and legs, and what look like burn marks on her knees.

Since then Alicia has been fired from her job and has apologised about the whole incident.

    5. 'Crazy Eyes' Suzanne from OITNB

In October 2013, Dancing with the Stars' Julianne Hough dressed as "Crazy Eyes" a character from the hit Netflix series Orange Is the New Black played by African-American actress Uzo Aduba and Hough went all out in blackface for her costume.

She wore an orange prison garb, a "Crazy Eyes" ID badge, bantu knots in her hair, and blackface makeup.

Dear Julianne Hough, blackface is never a good costume, k?

    6. Twin Towers

    Twitter: @Josh_Williams94

Amber Langford and Annie Collinge, two 19-year-old students from Chester University, dressed up as the 9/11 twin towers for Halloween.

The students entered a costume competition at Chester nightclub Rosies, and they came first, taking home £150. Seriously WTF.

    7. Anna Rexia

Another online costume store Halloween13 had a bright idea in creating a sexy "Anna Rexia" costume.

The costume consists of a skeleton-print mini-dress, a measuring tape worn around the waist, a removable “Anna Rexia” badge, and a bone-shaped headband. The costume’s description reads, “You can never be too rich or too thin.” Ummmmmm....

    8. Missing Persons Poster

Just when we thought Halloween offenders were done with their tasteless and offensive costumes, along comes this guy. This man's costume at a New York Halloween party wearing a missing persons flyer for Avonte Oquendo.

Flyers have been posted around the city and announcements about Oquendo's disappearance are regularly made throughout the subway system. He was last seen wearing a grey-striped shirt, black jeans and black sneakers.

We don’t know much about the guy who decided to make a mockery of this tragic situation, but we do know he’s joined the masses who need a Halloween Costumes 101 lesson.

    9. Trayvon Martin

Possibly one of the most offensive costumes for Halloween? This man wore blackface and dressed as Trayvon Martin for Halloween.

A group costume features a man dressed as Martin, wearing blackface and a blood-stained hoodie, and a man portraying Zimmerman, wearing a shirt that reads "Neighborhood Watch."

In a photo uploaded to the Facebook account of Caitlin Cimeno, the woman in the picture, the man portraying Zimmerman has fashioned a gun out of his right hand and has pointed it at the man dressed as Martin.

Not only is this costume making fun of someone who died, but being incredibly insensitive towards Trayvon, his family, the entire case. Being blackface too is just basically adding salt to the wounds. When will people learn?

    10. Klu Klux Klan

Via Screen grab courtesy of WHSV

Last year a nonchalant mother, Jessica Black of Craigsville, allowed her 7-year-old son to dress as a Klansman with a floor-length white robe and full-faced white hood as a costume for Halloween because she insisted that it's a family tradition.

Jessica Black of Craigsville told WHSV in Virginia that there's nothing wrong with the costume or the Ku Klux Klan. "It's suppose to be white with white. Black with black. Man with woman and all of that."

    Sure mum. Suuuuuure.
