Paul Ryan's Wisconsin Roots Run Deep

The newly-elected Republican Congress in 1998 explained his family's roots in the Wisconsin, going back to the 1800s. The first member of his family to run for office, his father died when he was 16. Ryan has 55 cousins who helped out with his first election. His mother went back to school after his father died and started a small business, which she sold in 1998.
