A conservative super PAC has been airing ads this week attempting to spur a grassroots campaign to “fire” House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner.
“We need urgent action by thousands of Americans to fire John Boehner,” the ad says, urging viewers to call a toll-free number to sign a petition.
“After Nancy Pelosi rammed through Obamacare, America hired John Boehner to fight Obama,” the ad continues. “But after three years of secret back room deals with Obama, Boehner has betrayed our trust. He helped Obama implement Obamacare and now he refuses to defund it. This is only the latest Boehner betrayal.”
“Speaker Boehner is personally blocking a special committee to expose the truth about the 9/11 Benghazi terror attack. It’s just enough to make you sick. Tell House Republicans to fire Speaker John Boehner,” the ad closes.
The ad is the work of Revive America PAC, which describes itself as “a grassroots ‘super PAC’ joined by thousands of Americans, who are united in their determination to take back America from the scourge of radical liberalism and Washington political corruption.”
BuzzFeed saw the ad on CNN Thursday evening. Others reported seeing the ad on Fox News and MSNBC.
The super PAC is treasured by Nancy Watkins, a well-known Tampa-based campaign finance guru who previously served as the treasurer for Michele Bachmann’s failed 2012 presidential campaign and more recently helped Bachmann deal with campaign ethics issues. Watkin’s office did not return a request for comment on where else the ad was airing.
Bob Adams, the founder and president of Revive America PAC, said the super PAC used a media buyer and was testing the ad saying they spent “probably about $50,000.”
Adams said he choose to air the ad this week because of the push to defund Obamacare and the Benghazi hearings.
“Defunding is a part of, Benghazi is a big part of it, and Speaker Boehner’s endorsement of the Syria,” Adams said. “You take those three issues and combine it together. It’s toxic.”
Adams said the ad also aired on Mark Levin and Glenn Beck’s radio show.
