13 Ways President Noy Noy Aquino Has FAILED The Philippines

A people’s response to Aquino’s 5th State of the Nation Address

    1 & 2: Typhoon Relief FAIL

    1. Aquino FAILED to respond to the natural disaster of Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda), thereby creating an UNnatural disaster and devastation of the Filipino people.

Aid wasn’t distributed due to local corruption and he FAILED to rebuild and rehabilitate the Philippines, creating only 50 temporary homes for thousands of victims.

This infographic illustrates the human consequences of these shortcomings. Despite the billions of pesos in the Philippine calamity fund and the international donations of millions of dollars, why was the government unprepared? Where did all of that money go?

    2. Aquino FAILED to prioritize building the proper infrastructure to prepare the Philippines for the yearly typhoon season. In fact, he enabled the diversion of funds to false projects revealed in the Pork Barrel scandal.

    3 & 4: Pork Barrel FAIL

    3. Aquino FAILED to further investigate the wide-spread corruption of his regime and cronies and by neglecting to prosecute their rampant abuse of power. They stole public funds for much needed public projects.

One of the biggest recent cases of the pork barrel scandal involved many Philippine Congress members who conspired with businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles (JLN). This infographic shows how she and Aquino’s colleagues stole billions in Priority Development Assistance Funds (PDAF). Napoles’s letter to President Aquino in seeking protection from her crimes was completely ignored. However, Aquino doesn’t publicly acknowledge that he benefits the most from pork barrel funds, pocketing P1.3 triliion of public money himself (approx. $29 billion).

Aquino also implemented a program called the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) in order to speed up the process of collecting even more public funds. DAP has been deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of the Philippines.

    4. Aquino, the Pork Barrel King, FAILED by cutting into contracts of foreign and local companies, tax evasion by his campaign financiers and smuggling as monitored by no less than the International Monetary Fund Direction of Trade.

    5 & 6: Upholding Workers' Rights FAIL

    5. The Aquino regime FAILED by neglecting the responsibility to protect its own people who are forced to work overseas. Aquino boasts of record-setting trade export gains to the United States, but the biggest export of the Philippines is actually its own people. Every day, 4,000+ Filipinos leave the Philippines to find work abroad who in turn provide substantial financial support to their families back home in the form of remittances. Approximately 4 million Filipinos live in the United States. A common issue of Filipinos in the U.S. is economic injustice, such as wage theft and human trafficking.

    6. Aquino FAILED by continuing the Labor Export Policy and upholding its unequal U.S.-imperialist trade policies that put people into extreme poverty and force them to separate from their families and migrate instead of investing in the genuine development of the country.

    7 & 8: Human Rights FAIL

    7. Aquino FAILED by continuing down a crooked and corrupt path in implementing Oplan Bayanihan, which continues the violent repression of the Filipino people.

    8. Aquino FAILED by committing at least 170 cases of extrajudicial killings against activists and critics and detaining more than 400 political prisoners since the beginning of his term in 2010. Aquino FAILED to pursue justice for all victims of human rights violations.

    9, 10 & 11: Upholding National Sovereignty FAIL

    9. Aquino FAILED to uphold Philippine sovereignty by serving U.S. Imperialism in enacting the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement and allowing more U.S. troops to occupy the Philippines and use facilities freely and openly without regard to the negative effects of increased militarization.

    10. Aquino FAILED to protect national interests by pushing for charter change (cha-cha) in the Philippine Constitution in order to pave the way for joining the largest international trade arrangement, the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, that would further liberalize and deregulate the already poverty-stricken economy of the Philippines.

    11. Aquino FAILED to create national industries, which would have provided jobs for the Filipino people, and to create products made and sold in the Philippines to sustain its own economy, not of other foreign countries.

“The problem lies in the BS Aquino government’s perpetuation of a semi-feudal semi-colonial economy through its refusal to implement genuine land reform and national industrialization to generate decent employment. The country’s economic situation has not improved under BS Aquino’s policies.“
-- Migrante International, Summing-Up of the State of Migrants Under Aquino 2014

    12 & 13: Peace Talks FAIL

    12. Aquino FAILED by continuing to violate existing Peace Talks agreements and undermining the talks in proposing that the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) agree to indefinite ceasefires and localized peace talks, which infringe upon existing agreements.

    13. Aquino FAILED by arresting Benito Tiamzon and Wilma Austria, National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) consultants, and violating the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CARHRIHL) and the Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees (JASIG).

On July 28, Philippine President Noy Noy Aquino will be delivering his State of the Nation Address (SONA).

He will be highlighting the improvements and accomplishments of his administration to the rest of the Filipino people that he is supposed to serve. Often times, he neglects to address the true conditions of the Philippines, amidst an ever worsening economic crisis with the rampant graft and corruption in the Philippine government (the biggest example being the Pork Barrel Scam).

In response to his SONA, Filipinos at home and abroad will be gathering to rally nationwide and overseas, and expose the TRUE conditions of Filipinos around the world.
