1. Pramface
If you liked Juno, you'll love this equally funny comedy drama set in Edinburgh. It features 18-year old Laura and 16-year-old Jamie, who hook up at a sixth-form party. Laura gets pregnant, and the series follows the highs and lows that ensue.

2. Shetland
This recent BBC crime drama is set (unsurprisingly) on the remote Shetland Islands, and the vast landscape is as moody and gripping as the plot, which features murders, fire festivals, mysteries, more murders, beaches, storms, and murder.

3. The Book Group
This warm and well-received 2002 sitcom revolves around a rag-tag, mismatched group of local oddballs who join a book group in Glasgow run by an American woman called Clare, who finds she's definitely bitten off more than she can chew.

4. The Young Person's Guide to Becoming a Rock Star
This genuinely funny and engaging 1998 comedy drama follows a group of Glaswegian youngsters as they try to get their band (Jocks Wa Hey) to the big time. It also features a youthful Gerard Butler as a sleazy musician called Marty Claymore.

5. Takin' Over the Asylum
This award-winning 1994 six-part series features a young-looking David Tennant as Campbell, a manic-depressive patient in a Glasgow psychiatric hospital, who becomes the hospital radio DJ. It's lovely, inspired stuff, and really worth a watch.

6. The Crow Road
Here's an equally young-looking Peter Capaldi. In 1996, he played Rory McHoan in this adaptation of Iain Banks' darkly humorous novel about a nephew's search for his uncle, who disappeared while writing a book. It's a truly iconic series.

7. Limmy's Show!
Limmy's Show! is a fantastically surreal (and hilarious) sitcom created by Glaswegian comic Brian "Limmy" Limond. There are recurring characters who you'll definitely get attached to, especially the long-suffering TV host Falconhoof.

8. The Field of Blood
Peter Capaldi plays a hard-bitten Glasgow detective in this excellent 2011–13 crime drama, which is set in 1982. His philosophical character even has a Doctor Who-style sidekick: a young, idealistic journalist called Patricia "Paddy" Meehan.

9. Burnistoun
Burnistoun is another great Scottish sketch show. It's set in a fictional west coast town and features hilarious characters like Kelly McGlade, Burnistoun's answer to Beyoncé, and two weird brothers who run an ice cream van.

10. Case Histories
This atmospheric, engrossing series set in Edinburgh features Jason "Lucius Malfoy" Isaacs as Jackson Brodie, a weathered, attractive private investigator who helps people move on by investigating their decades-old missing person cases.

11. Empty
This little-known 2008 comedy series stars Gregor Fisher and ex-hobbit Billy Boyd as Jacky Allen and Tony MacBryan, two chatty men who work for a property maintenance company in Glasgow. It's a gentle, engaging, and truly funny show.

12. Outlander
OK, you've probably heard of this hit series, but if you haven't got round to watching it yet, it's definitely worth tuning into the epic tale of a nurse who gets wanged back to 1740s Scotland through a stone circle, and then meets a "verra" sexy Scot called Jamie.
