This warm and well-received 2002 sitcom revolves around a rag-tag, mismatched group of local oddballs who join a book group in Glasgow run by an American woman called Clare, who finds she's definitely bitten off more than she can chew.

This genuinely funny and engaging 1998 comedy drama follows a group of Glaswegian youngsters as they try to get their band (Jocks Wa Hey) to the big time. It also features a youthful Gerard Butler as a sleazy musician called Marty Claymore.

This award-winning 1994 six-part series features a young-looking David Tennant as Campbell, a manic-depressive patient in a Glasgow psychiatric hospital, who becomes the hospital radio DJ. It's lovely, inspired stuff, and really worth a watch.

Here's an equally young-looking Peter Capaldi. In 1996, he played Rory McHoan in this adaptation of Iain Banks' darkly humorous novel about a nephew's search for his uncle, who disappeared while writing a book. It's a truly iconic series.

Limmy's Show! is a fantastically surreal (and hilarious) sitcom created by Glaswegian comic Brian "Limmy" Limond. There are recurring characters who you'll definitely get attached to, especially the long-suffering TV host Falconhoof.

Peter Capaldi plays a hard-bitten Glasgow detective in this excellent 2011–13 crime drama, which is set in 1982. His philosophical character even has a Doctor Who-style sidekick: a young, idealistic journalist called Patricia "Paddy" Meehan.

Burnistoun is another great Scottish sketch show. It's set in a fictional west coast town and features hilarious characters like Kelly McGlade, Burnistoun's answer to Beyoncé, and two weird brothers who run an ice cream van.
