Kanye West Has Donated $2 Million And Set Up A College Tuition Fund For George Floyd's Daughter

West also pledged to cover legal fees for the families of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor.

Over the past week, celebrities across the world have been speaking out, donating and taking to the streets to protest George Floyd's death at the hands of white police officers on May 25.

Floyd died begging for breath as a white police officer used a knee chokehold on his neck for 8 minutes.

Celebrities, including Chrissy Teigen, John Legend and Billie Eilish, have made donations to the Black Lives Matter movement while encouraging their followers to do the same.

And the latest celebrity to get involved is Kanye West, who has made a donation of $2 million to charities associated with Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd.

Arbery — an unarmed 25-year-old Black man — was shot and killed by armed white residents while jogging in a suburban neighbourhood back in February.

Taylor — a 26-year-old Black woman — was fatally shot by police in her Kentucky home on March 13.

In addition, West also pledged to cover legal fees for the Arbery and Taylor families, and confirmed that he'd set up a college fund to cover tuition for Floyd's 6-year-old daughter, Gianna.

Shortly after the donations were confirmed, West took to the streets to join protesters marching on Chicago's South Side.

West has been criticised by fans over recent years for his alignment with president Trump, and this action comes days after they urged him to make a public statement or donation to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Later in the day, West's wife Kim Kardashian announced that she and her various companies would also be donating to Black Lives Matter, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, National Urban League and Color of Change.

"We firmly believe that #BlackLivesMatter and we are committed to supporting and participating in the change that needs to take place," Kardashian wrote alongside the announcement.
