News that Cardi had filed for divorce was first reported early last week, but it wasn't until an Instagram live stream on Friday that she addressed it publicly, explaining that the couple was separating because they simply "grew apart".

"I'm OK," Cardi told fans. "I want to let you know I have not shed not one tear."

"I just got tired of fucking arguing," she went on. "I got tired of not seeing things eye to eye. When you feel like it's just not the same anymore, before you actually get cheated on, I'd rather just leave … Nothing crazy out of this world happened. Sometimes people really do fucking grow apart."

"Sometimes you're just tired of the arguments and the build up," Cardi said. "You get tired and before something bad happens, you leave. What is so bad about that?"

Well, in another Instagram live stream on Monday, Cardi opened up further about her divorce, taking the opportunity to shut down conspiracy theories that it's all for publicity.

"I want to address another bullshit that I heard," Cardi began. "A blogger claims that I am getting a divorce for attention. You think I'm going to pay a lawyer twenty thousand fucking dollars?"

"They're like, 'I just find this so funny, that Cardi's getting a divorce around the time that she got a record out,'" Cardi explained. "First of all, 'Me Gusta' isn't even my record. It's Anitta's record. So I'm not even getting a huge piece of the song."

She went on to say that she would never put Offset, her baby's father, through such a high level of public scrutiny "for attention."

"You mean to tell me that I'm going to let my child's father go through scrutiny... I get along with his mother very well," Cardi said. "You think I'm going to do that to her son for attention?"

"Why do I need attention?" she asked.

"You don't see that I have millions of fucking followers?" Cardi added. "Do you see that I've got the number one song in the fucking world? Why do I need attention?"
