Social Workers sometimes get a bad rap, so here is a short Q&A about being a Social Worker.

Q: Oh, so you take people's children away...

A: This is not really a question but an assumption. No, I do not take anyone's children away contrary to popular belief.

Q; Social Workers are just a bunch of beeding heart liberals, right?

A: No, not all Social Workers are democrats. Actually, most Social Workers have yet to find a political party who adhere to the core values of social work practice.

Q: Do you even make money?

A: Yes, I earn far above minimum wage but I do not have any delusion that this career will make me rich in money. My career choice enriches me in ways that cannot be measured.

Q: There seem to be Social Workers everywhere, explain?

A: Not everyone who works in social service is a Social Worker. The title of Social Worker requires specific education, training and licensure issues by the state. Kinda like not everyone who works in a hospital is a doctor.

Q: Does your family suffer because of your profession?

A: Sometimes it is difficult to to not bring work home with me because I am a human with thoughts, feelings and emotions. If anything, my family is enlightened by my profession; they do not suffer because of it.

Q: If you care so much why don't you Social Workers do something about it by petitioning the government?

A: We have lobbyists in DC, unfortunately, our pockets aren't as deep as others.

Q: Why would you ever choose to be a Social Worker?

A: Because it's the right thing to do with the time I have been gifted with.
