Currently ~$12,000 in medical debt (with insurance).
I was a healthy person with insurance through my university, about to finish grad school in 2016. Then I had a nodule spontaneously grow on my thyroid and the biopsy couldn't rule out cancer, so I needed to have a thyroidectomy…Â
I was having a root canal done at a campus dental clinic. Midway through the procedure they had a fire drill, so the dentist had to stop to evacuate the building. I spent the next 20 minutes standing outside, mouth numb and full of packing, and looking like a drooling mess.
