Listen — I'm going to cut right to the chase on this one. Ridley Scott's new film, The Last Duel, has a trailer and...ya know what? I'm not even going to preface it. Just watch the trailer:
Y'ALL! OKAY! SO! We're all in agreement that we should just skip the pomp and circumstance of awards season and give this movie all of the casting-related awards now, right? No, seriously. It looks unbelievable!
The film — which is based on a true story — follows Marguerite de Carrouges (Jodie Comer), the wife of knight Jean de Carrouges (Matt Damon) in 14th century France.
The Carrouges' seemingly serene married life is shattered when Jean's squire, Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver), is accused of violently assaulting Marguerite while Jean is away.
The incident culminates in Jean challenging Jacques to a duel to the death — which, as the title insinuates, was the last officially recognized judicial duel* in France.
