Here Are All Of The Movies Coming Out This Summer That You're Not Going To Want To Miss

Horror! Action! Dinosaurs! A tiny lil' shell with a single googly eye!

    1. Sneakerella

a young woman and young man smile at each other
Roger Erickson /© Disney+ / Courtesy Everett Collection

This gender-swapped retelling of Cinderella sees an aspiring sneaker designer fall for the famous daughter of a basketball player and sneaker tycoon. It looks super cute — though, admittedly, there is a part of me that wishes they were glass sneakers. That'd be kinda cool, right? No?! OK.

Starring: Chosen Jacobs and Lexi Underwood.

When it premieres: May 13 on Disney+

    2. The Innocents

© IFC Midnight /Courtesy Everett Collection

A Norwegian supernatural thriller following a group of children who discover they possess mysterious powers. The trailer looks all kinds of atmospheric, creepy, and, "Ahhh, no thank you!" — which translates to, "Yes, sign me up!"

Starring: Rakel Lenora Fløttum, Alva Brynsmo Ramstad, Sam Ashraf, Mina Yasmin Bremseth Asheim, Ellen Dorrit Petersen, Morten Svartveit, Kadra Yusuf, and Lisa Tønne

    3. Torn Hearts

    Paramount Pictures / Alyssa Moran

Two up-and-coming country music artists seek out the home of their hero, but end up getting more than they bargained for in this horror/thriller. In my humble opinion, we don't have nearly enough country music horror films, so I'm excited that this exists! Yee-Haw and whatnot!

Starring: Katey Sagal, Abby Quinn, Alexxis Lemire, Joshua Leonard, and Shiloh Fernandez

When it premieres: May 20 on Digital

    4. Men

Kevin Baker /© A24 / Courtesy Everett Collection

In the simplest possible terms, this self-described "folk horror" film is about a woman who flees to a country home after a tragedy befalls her, where she is stalked, harassed, and haunted by various men — all of whom possess the same face. I was able to attend a screening of this film a few weeks ago, and — let me tell (re: warn) you — it's not for the faint of heart or soft of stomach. It's incredible, but not for everyone, and it will stay with you long after the credits roll. Whatever you think it is, it's not.

Starring: Jessie Buckley, Rory Kinnear, Paapa Essiedu, and Gayle Rankin

    5. Unhuman

    Blumhouse / Paramount Pictures

You've heard of "Hot Girl Summer," but this season it's apparently Horror Movie Summer! (IDK, I tried something.) Anyway, this one sees a high school field trip turn into a living nightmare (no, like...more so than a normal high school field trip) when the students are forced to work together to defeat the undead.

Starring: Brianne Tju, Benjamin Wadsworth, Uriah Shelton, Ali Gallo, and Peter Giles

    8. Father of the Bride

an older man talks to a young bride
    HBO Max

Y'all, the '90s Father of the Bride (and, let's be honest, the sequel, too) is one of my ultimate comfort movies. I love it. So I was super excited to hear we'd be getting a reboot (I'm an optimist), and it looks so cute. The story doesn't stray far from the formula, following the father of the bride as he tackles his own feeling on his daughter's impending nuptials, but this version has added a few twists and turns.

Starring: Andy Garcia, Gloria Estefan, Adria Arjona, Diego Boneta, Isabela Merced, and Chloe Fineman

    9. Lightyear

    Pixar

We finally get to see some of the adventures that made Buzz Lightyear earn himself his very own action figure. Also, I find the fact that Buzz is getting his own movie before Woody very, very ironic, given the events of the original Toy Story. Now give me a gritty, Clint Eastwood-esque Woody's Roundup Western, you cowards!

Starring:  Chris Evans, Keke Palmer, Peter Sohn, James Brolin, Taika Waititi, Dale Soules, Uzo Aduba, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez, and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

    10. Good Luck to You, Leo Grande

    Searchlight Pictures

Listen, Emma Thompson in a movie is reason enough to see it, but couple it in with the rave reviews and Good Luck to You, Leo Grande should be on the top of your summer must watch list. This new film follows Nancy Stokes, a retired school teacher, who is looking for some adventure...and good sex. Her plan involves hiring a young sex worker named Leo, and what ensues is another picture perfect Emma Thompson performance.

Starring: Emma Thompson and Daryl McCormack

    11. Cha Cha Real Smooth

    Apple TV+

A bar mitzvah party host begins a unlikely-but-beautiful friendship with a woman and her teenage daughter. It looks incredibly sweet and funny, and it's named after a song so deeply engrained in my brain that, every time I see the title, I mentally return to the sixth-grade dance floor.

Starring: Dakota Johnson, Cooper Raiff, Vanessa Burghardt, Brad Garrett, and Leslie Mann

When a young Gru tries to join a team of supervillains, things go awry quickly, and things get even worse after he steals a precious stone with the help of his minions. YES, MINIONS. Also, this cast, though? Star-studded!

After everything that went down in Avengers: Endgame, we follow Thor's various attempts to define his life outside of his superhero status. However, his self-discovery journey is cut short when he's forced to face Gorr the God Butcher, who — as his rad name suggests — seeks to destroy all of the gods.

Based on the iconic Jane Austen novel, we see a classic tale of love, second chances, and beautiful costuming. Honestly, I'd watch Henry Golding do nothing but be handsome for two straight hours anyway, so I'm just psyched there's a story and stuff here, also!

    24. The Gray Man

a man looks deep in thought
    Netflix / Via youtube.com

From the Russo Brothers, we see a CIA/assassin drama that promises action, intrigue, and Chris Evans with an excellent mustache! Also, this is the most expensive film Netflix has produced to date with a budget of $200 million. So, in theory, the entire film should look as beautiful as that mustache does (can you tell I'm not over the mustache? MUSTACHE)!

Starring: Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Dhanush, and Ana de Armas

When it premieres: July 15 on Netflix

    25. Nope

two fists in the process of bumping
    Universal Pictures

In perhaps the most aptly named horror movie of all time, this new Jordan Peele story deals with the concept of "bad miracles" and, yeah, aliens. Question is, will it contain a jump scare that gets me as good as the one in Signs always does? I can almost guarantee it.

So, I saw a trailer for this for the first time during a screening of Everything Everywhere All at Once, and I truly thought it was a fever dream. Surely something this aggressively my brand had to be imagined. Highly stylized fight choreography? Check. Stunning cinematography? Check-a-roo. My favorite WWE superstar, Bad Bunny*?! CHECK FOR SURE — I'LL BE THERE OPENING NIGHT.

(*This is a very silly joke, but I also do unironically love both Bad Bunny and pro-wrestling, so I'm keeping it in here.)

Starring: Brad Pitt, Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Andrew Koji, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael Shannon, Bad Bunny, Zazie Beetz, Logan Lerman, Karen Fukuhara, Masi Oka, and Sandra Bullock
