22 Maddening Decisions Movie Characters Made That Still Annoy People To This Day

We recently asked members of our BuzzFeed Community, "What is the single most nonsensical, most infuriating, most maddening decision you've ever seen a character make in a movie?" and, WHEW BUDDY, they did NOT disappoint. SO, with that in mind, here are just a few of the most infuriating movie moments shared:

    1. When Rose jumps back onto the ship after getting a seat in a lifeboat in Titanic (1997)

    Paramount Pictures

"She knew it wasn't possible for everyone to be saved with the number of lifeboats and that she would probably die. She literally only survived because she got lucky and Jack knew what to do."

    2. When Peter ran past the front door instead of out of it in Hereditary (2018)

"When he was running from his possessed mum...Like, he could have escaped?!"

    3. When Clark's adoptive father died in the tornado in Man of Steel (2013)

    Warner Bros. Pictures

"Why couldn't Clark have just run to his dad and act like they survived the tornado inside of the truck? Wild things like that have happened before — so that was a preventable death."

    4. When they open the cage, allowing the Indominus Rex to escape in Jurassic World (2015)

    Universal Pictures

"Thinking the big dinosaur had just magically disappeared...?"

    5. When Bella believes James' lie in Twilight (2008)

    Summit Entertainment

"Bella, he was obviously sus! It was obviously a trap! Bella's stupidity seriously pissed me off."

    6. When Veronica believes JD's story about the German bullets in Heathers (1989)

    New World Pictures

"No solid bullet is NOT going to seriously hurt someone. I love the film, but I can’t help but think she’s either majorly dumb in that moment or just so desperate to believe JD’s not a psychopath that she buys into it."

    7. When Peter gave up the Edith glasses to Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)

    Marvel Studios

"Like, I understand Peter didn’t feel like he wielded that power, but don’t give it to some random dude you just met! Give it to Shield or Nick Fury or back to Happy!"

    8. When Abu tries to steal the ruby in Aladdin (1992)

    Walt Disney Studios

"I always wanted to smack Abu across the face when he chooses to touch the big ruby in the Cave of Wonders instead of just staying put like he was told to. It's a small moment, but it just annoyed me so hard the damn monkey was too greedy to follow the rules."

    9. When Lara-Jean chose Peter over John Ambrose in To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You (2020)

    10. When Jeremy and Jemima get into the Child Catcher's cage in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)

    United Artists

"I mean, his disguise wasn't even that good. Darn treacle tarts and ice cream."

    11. When Andy quits her job at Runway in The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

    20th Century Fox

"And getting back with her unsupportive boyfriend..."

    12. When Peter loses his cool with Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

    Marvel Studios

"I will never forgive him. He's literally responsible for half of the population getting killed because he couldn’t keep it together for just a few more frickin' seconds! Every time I rewatch that moment, I scream!"

    13. When Harry goes to the Ministry of Magic in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)

    Warner Bros. Pictures

    "It was clearly a trap!"

    14. When the cop brought her small child to the house and told him to stay in the car in The Grudge (2020)

    Sony Pictures Releasing

"In the newest Grudge (which was stupid for many reasons, but anyway). Like, girl, your kid is like 10, you know damn well he is not going to stay in the car. Why would you even bring him NEAR a haunted AF house like that?! And this comes at the end of the film when she has already been told to stay far away from the house. So, let’s just bring the kid around it, shall we?"

    15. When Louis keeps burying things in the graveyard in Pet Sematary (1989)

    Paramount Pictures

"There have been plenty of stupid moves in horror movies, but this is by far the worst."

    16. When Jules sends the email to Michael's boss in My Best Friend's Wedding (1997)

    Sony Pictures Releasing

"Honestly, everything Julianne decided to do in that movie was awful. Sending that email to his boss was the worst. She finally let go in the end, but the fact that she just wouldn’t move on from him was just frustrating."

    17. When Edith puts Enola’s key back on Lucille’s key ring in Crimson Peak (2015)

    Universal Pictures

"GIRL, she left her keys on the table to confirm you took them. It's obvious!"

    18. When Helen stopped and turned around in I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)

    Columbia Pictures

"Safety was right in front of her! It drove me nuts because she could've survived if she just kept going!"

    19. When Ash and Kristofferson went up to Bean’s house to get Mr. Fox’s tail in The Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)

    20th Century Fox

"It was dumb on their part because they knew that the farmers were mad at the foxes — then Ash just left Kristofferson to get kidnapped! I love this movie with all of my heart, but I can’t watch that scene without getting mad."

    20. When Ofelia eats the food after explicitly being told not to eat the food in Pan's Labyrinth (2006)

    Warner Bros. Pictures

"When the little girl was in the room with the Pale Man as her second task and was instructed to not eat anything by the Faun, and — despite the fairies also warning her and telling her not to eat the food — she ate it anyway. She had every warning you could possibly think of, but she still ate the fruit, and two fairies got killed because of her!"

    21. When Charlie let the stranger in the house in The Purge (2013)

    Universal Pictures

"Overall it was a dumb movie, but his decision made it even more dumb."

    22. And finally — every single decision anyone makes in A Quiet Place (2018)

    Paramount Pictures

"I know it was for the sake of the thrill, but every decision made in this movie was maddening. Letting the kids walk behind them in that early scene? Ah!"
