People Shared Characters They Believe Didn't Deserve To Die, And I'm Upset All Over Again

Also, this post is seriously ONLY spoilers.

It's one thing to witness the tragic death of a beloved fictional character — but it's a whole other thing when you firmly believe that the character didn't deserve their fate in the first place.

Well, this week, Redditor newenglandkid asked the simple question "What character didn’t deserve to die?" and, whew, I'm going to need some tissues.

    Walt Disney Studios

Here are just a few of the fictional characters* who deserved a better fate than what they received:

*Also, given the entire nature of this post, HUGE SPOILERS ahead.

    1. Tadashi, Big Hero 6 (2014)

    Walt Disney Studios

"He was such a good guy. He just wanted to help and save people. The only reason he died was because he tried to save Callahan from the fire. Plus, I had the biggest crush on him."

    2. Leslie, Bridge to Terabithia (2007)

    Walt Disney Pictures

"She was just a freaking kid. She didn't deserve to die so young."

    3. John Coffey, The Green Mile (1999)

    Warner Bros.

"He literally didn't deserve to die."

    4. Bing Bong, Inside Out (2015)

"I brought my daughter to the theater to see it. When they are trapped in the crevice, she started to lose it crying, so we left the theater to calm her down. I snuck back in to see if they had a plan to escape so that I could convince my daughter it would be okay and to go back to continue can guess how well that went. I still haven't seen the end of the movie and, even years later, my daughter (who is now almost 10) refuses to watch it and gets upset when I mention it!"

    5. Tony Stark, Avengers: Endgame (2019)

    Marvel Studios

"This isn’t a criticism of the movie, just an acknowledgement of how successfully it made me feel sadness for characters. I just hate that he and Morgan aren’t going to get to be in each other’s lives."

    6. Prim, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2 (2015)

"She was the first person I thought of for this question. I was so angry when she died, I threw my book across the room and just sat there. All I kept thinking was, 'The whole reason for the story is that Katniss volunteers to essentially die instead of Prim, and she fucking dies anyway!'"

    7. Charles Xavier, Logan (2017)

    20th Century Fox

"It broke my goddamn heart when Logan was carrying him as he was dying, whispering, 'It wasn't me. It wasn't me.'"

    8. King Kong, King Kong (1933)

    Radio Pictures

"The fuck? Leave him the fuck on his island..."

    9. Remus Lupin, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 (2011)

    Warner Bros.

"He was such a gem, but at least he could finally be reunited with his friends."

    10. Carrie, Carrie (1976)

    United Artists

"I wish it ended with her killing her mother and joining the X-Men or something."

    11. Bob, Stranger Things

"He was a good guy and I was just beginning to like him when he got killed. It barely affected the plot as well."

    12. Black Widow, Avengers: Endgame (2019)

    Marvel Studios

"This is the only cinematic death that has ever actually affected me. Not so much the act of her death, but the fight between her and Clint to be the one to make the sacrifice. It really was beautiful, and showcased their relationship so well. I saw it with my best friend, and we’ve always seen a lot of ourselves in Clint and Nat, and as soon as they started fighting to be the one to sacrifice themselves, the emotion started to build."

    13. Maes Hughes, Fullmetal Alchemist

    Adult Swim

"The man loved his daughter so damn much."

    14. Admiral Ackbar, Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)

"He deserved a more fitting goodbye."

    15. Charlotte Richards, Lucifer

"She had turned her life around, was in a good relationship, and helped fix one of her greatest wrongs."

    16. Zara (the assistant), Jurassic World (2015)

    Universal Pictures

"She arguably had the worst way to go."

    17. Bobby Singer, Supernatural

"He was the boys' father figure. He stuck with them through thick and thin, only to be killed off by a leviathan."

    18. And finally — Daisy, John Wick (2014)

    Summit Entertainment

"John Wick's dog didn't deserve her fate."
