People Shared The Horror Movie Scene That Disturbed Them The Most And Yikes, Y'all

Maybe don't read this post if you're eating? Or about to eat? Or plan to eat again...ever?

We recently asked members of the BuzzFeed Community, "What's the one horror movie scene that never fails to disturb you, no matter how many times you've seen it?" and, WHEW BUDDY, their responses did not disappoint. Here are just a few of the most stomach-churning scenes listed:

WARNING: Due to the nature of this post, the following not only includes SPOILERS for these films, but also some graphic descriptions and depictions of violence. Please proceed with caution!

    1. The "rewind" scene, Funny Games (1997)

    Concorde-Castle Rock/Turner

"Not only was this infuriating and disturbing, but it completely changed the tone of the film and shocked the audience out of any complacency. I was sick to my stomach and had to take a few minutes to recover."

    2. The TV crawl scene, The Ring (2002)

    DreamWorks Pictures

"When Samara crawls out of the TV. ... It literally put me off horror movies forever."

    3. The possession scene, The Fourth Kind (2009)

    Universal Pictures

"When you see the 'real footage' of the psychiatrist being possessed and saying, 'I am God.' I still watch that part from the side of my eyes when it's on. I cannot watch it straight-on."

    4. The Mother's reaction scene, Hereditary (2018)

"People always say the beheading scene, but for me it's the part where you hear her mom screaming when she goes to the car and discovers the headless body. Then, it cuts to the head itself in the road, then back to the mom crying in agony with her husband. It's so disturbing."

    5. The hobbling scene, Misery (1990)

    Columbia Pictures

"I love horror movies, but the hobbling scene has stuck in my brain above all others for, like, 20 years now."

    6. The tragic ending scene, The Mist (2007)

    MGM Distribution Co.

"When the dad is one bullet short, so he kills his son and the other survivors, leaving himself to be killed by the monsters...then the mist starts to clear and the army is there to save them. If only he had only waited 10 minutes before shooting everyone they'd all be okay, and now he has to live knowing what he's done."

    7. The bullying/closet scene, The Sixth Sense (1999)

    Buena Vista Pictures Distribution

"When those kids lock Cole in the closet with the angry ghost at the party, and all the audience can hear is Cole screaming until his mum pulls him out."

    8. The final choice scene, Circle (2015)

"It’s this weird mindfuck of a movie that gives me nightmares. There's a sequence where they have to choose between saving a pregnant woman or a small child and it always gets me."

    9. The dance torture scene, Suspiria (2018)

    Amazon Studios

"When Olga has her body twisted and bent into unimaginable positions due to witchcraft. There’s blood, urine, broken's a lot."

    10. The sleep demon scene, Insidious (2011)

"I suffer from sleep paralysis and there's a scene where these shadowy figures are trying to get the little boy. They look SO similar to the things I see when I can’t move, so it hit a little too close to home."

    11. The "Who's your daddy?" scene, House of 1000 Corpses (2003)

    Lionsgate Films

"This was the first and only time I've ever turned off a horror left me feeling gross for weeks."

    12. The escape scene, Gerald's Game (2017)

"I don't know why because its not the goriest thing I've watched, but the scene when she pulls her hands out of the handcuffs...I can't watch it. It made my skin crawl."

    13. The mutant baby, Eraserhead (1977)

    American Film Institute

"The scene when he cuts open the mutant baby's wrappings. I've only watched this movie once years ago, and that scene STILL haunts my dreams. Frankly, I'm sorry I even wrote this here because I know people are going to look it up. Sorry about the nightmares."

    14. The "Attestupa" scene, Midsommar (2019)

"Everything from the jumping off the cliff to beating the man’s head in with the haunts me every day."

    15. The unhinged jaw scene, The Taking of Deborah Logan (2014)

    Eagle Films

"The scene where she unhinges her jaw to swallow a little girl's head is wild. I saw that movie four years ago and I still remember that part vividly."

    16. The opening scene, Jaws (1975)

    Universal Pictures

"I’m a Floridian who pretty much grew up at the beach. I saw this movie when I was about 10, and the very first scene where the swimmer is tugged suddenly and violently under the water traumatized me. I was scared to death to swim in the ocean for years — it’s just too shocking and realistic. It’s been more than 25 years since I've seen that movie, and I still get paralyzed with fear thinking about it when I’m in the water!"

    17. The baby scene, Mother! (2017)

    Paramount Pictures

"I’m not sure if it really counts as a horror movie, but the entire scene with the baby still gives me chills. As if watching a newborn die wasn’t enough, we have to witness thousands of people EAT IT. It was too much."

    18. The "Peach Fuzz" scene, Creep (2014)

    The Orchard

"I watch a lot of horror, but something about that thing weirded me out. It's half funny and half horrifying, but overall just a total 'WTF, no thank you' moment in an already weird movie."

    19. The Black Phillip scene, The Witch (2015)

"I love scary movies. It takes a lot for a scene to really stick with me. However, the scene at the end of this where the goat starts talking to the girl made me LOSE. MY. SHIT. I watched it with a group of college friends, and when he started speaking, our entire group lost it. We had 20-year-old guys screaming. I have shown that single scene to a few friends who had never seen the movie and had no context, and all three times they made me turn it off because it was too freaky."

    20. The dog scene, The Thing (1982)

    Universal Pictures

"The alien dog assimilating the other dogs has to be one of the most terrifying scenes in all of horror. We all knew that the husky was going to be trouble from the beginning, but I definitely didn't expect the carnage it brought in the kennel scene."

    21. The hallucination scene, The Perfection (2019)

"When Lizzie was hallucinating and...if you’ve seen the film, YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS! It was gross, unsettling, creepy, and disturbing! Just thinking about it as I write this is making me uneasy."

    22. The torture scene, Terrifier (2018)

    Dread Central Presents

"The clown is so scary, but you already know THAT scene with the blonde girl was the worst part. I still can’t get the disgusting image out of my head."

    23. The twist ending, Saw (2004)

    Lionsgate Films

"While it's not the goriest moment I've ever seen — or even the goriest scene in this movie — it's one of the few movie moments that's stuck with me. The ending, when what everyone believed was a dead body slowly sits up and it's revealed to be the villain all along. The first time I saw it, I got chills. I'll never forget it."

    24. The tomahawk scene, Bone Tomahawk (2015)

    RLJ Entertainment

"I’m surprised nobody has mentioned it on any of these lists! The lead characters are forced to watch as cannibalistic ferals brutally dismember another human being, splitting him down the middle with the aforementioned tomahawk. The reason it's so disturbing is because they show all of it. All. Of. It."

    25. The "Shunting" scene, Society (1989)

    Wild Street Pictures

"This whole sequence at the end of this movie is one of the grossest, most confusing things I’ve ever seen in my life."

    26. The birthing scene, The Fly (1986)

    20th Century Fox

"When Geena Davis' character has a nightmare about giving birth to a giant maggot in the delivery thanks."

    27. The whole freakin' ending scene, The Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence (2011)

    IFC Midnight

"While it's not just ONE scene, I'd say the last 30 minutes of this messed me up pretty good. I still have nightmares about it years later. It’s one of the sickest thing I’ve ever seen."
