I'm going to cut to the chase — the first trailer for Cats is here and...it's something else. I have to warn you, no matter what you're expecting going into this trailer, it's not that:
The film — based on the beloved Broadway musical of the same name — boasts an absolutely INCREDIBLE cast including Jennifer Hudson, Idris Elba, Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, James Corden, and the list goes ON.
Like, just look, it's Taylor Swift as a cat!
And the set design is absolutely INCREDIBLE, created by using mostly practical props designed to look huge compared to the IRL cast, as discussed in recently released behind-the-scenes footage.
Anyway, the plot of this story follows a group of singing kitty cats over the course of a single night as they make some life-altering choices.
Cool, okay, great. Now that we have that out of the way...it's a little scary, right? We can all admit that.
Look, I'm just as much of a theater kid as the next nerd, and I am completely aware that THIS is how the characters look onstage, but I have to live my truth and admit...this is frightening.
And I am not the only human being with A WHOLE LOT of feelings related to this trailer:
Some people seriously think we need to get the authorities involved:
And there are, of course, plenty of A+ jokes to be had:
Even OTHER famous and beloved CGI animal stars got involved:
In all seriousness, I've written up both the It Chapter Two trailer and this trailer in the last six hours for BuzzFeed.com the website, and it's hard to tell which one is going to haunt me more.
So, uh, yeah...there ya have it. Be sure to catch Cats when it purrs into theaters Dec. 20!
