A Netflix Documentary About Jim Carrey's Controversial Transformation Into Andy Kaufman Is Coming And It Looks Surreal
"You have people that are going to sue this production for mental stress."
It's difficult to say exactly WHICH Jim Carrey performance is the greatest.
However, there's no denying that his turn as comedian Andy Kaufman in 1999's Man on the Moon is one of his most transformative.
And today Netflix released the first trailer for Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond, a documentary showcasing just HOW in character Carrey was during the filming process.
The film is made up of never-before-seen, behind-the-scenes footage of Carrey, ranging from his reaction to being cast as his idol, to his controversial approach to acting as Kaufman.
Because Carrey did not simply channel Kaufman...he BECAME him.
The trailer shows clips of Carrey behaving as Kaufman would on the set, to other actors, and even in his private trailer, much to the dismay of the studio.
"Universal didn't want the footage we took behind-the-scenes to surface," Carrey shared "so that people wouldn't think I was an asshole."
The documentary promises to let us into the minds of two unbelievable comedians at once, while revealing the artistic process behind portraying someone you admire, and the toll that might take.
So catch this surreal look into comedy's past, present, and future, coming to Netflix Nov. 17, 2017.
