The ladies of the 1910s kept their feet pretty well covered up, and very supported with a square heel.

The foot got a little more fancy-free in the 1920s with some strappy kitten heels and classic pumps.

In the 1930s, the heels got a little bit higher and we saw some new styles like the peep toe and the t-strap.

The 1940s were all about wide and chunky pumps...

...while the 1950s were much lighter with some flirty slingbacks.

Everything was groovy in the 1960s, when women's shoes had a little more fun with color and texture.

In the 1970s, those boogie shoes were supported with a thicker heel — perfect for a night at the disco.

The 1980s saw some totally rad new styles as well as a few throwbacks to the '50s and '60s.

The 1990s were all about personal style, whether it was a chunky peep toe, a funky animal print, or a colorful faux snakeskin pump. Girl power, y'all.

In the 2000s, the heel heights varied, but overall, the skinny stiletto heel was queen.

And here we are in the middle of the 2010s, where the shoes are all about bold, architectural styles.
