A good opening with a memorable theme song was a staple of TV shows I watched growing up. Nowadays, we get cold opens with credits running over the first scene. I guess the networks wanted those 60 seconds to sell to advertisers.

Last weekend I put an exhaust fan in the ceiling for my wife's grandfather. While my wife's brother and I were fitting the fan in between the joists, we found something under the insulation. At the end of this week's How I Met Your Mother, Barney Stinson did a "PSA" about giving the gift of booty this holiday season. He ended his message with a phrase any Gen X kid knows. Can you imagine if teen stars today did these kind of commercials? How the world has changed.
