#TheToneCommandments is a thing and everyone is jumping on board.

Australian comedian and TV host Wil Anderson has seized on a speech by the former prime minister where he quoted the Bible in talking about turning back asylum seekers.

Delivering the keynote speech to British conservatives at the Margaret Thatcher Centre in London, Tony Abbott suggested that European countries dealing with an influx of migrants from Syria should ignore the words of Jesus.

“The imperative to ‘love your neighbour as yourself’ is at the heart of every Western polity … but right now this wholesome instinct is leading much of Europe into catastrophic error,” he said.

"Too much mercy for some necessarily undermines justice for all".

Some people thought it was a shocking rejection of the teachings of the Bible from Tony Abbott, who was trained as a Jesuit priest before he entered politics.
