Nick Cannon Says He Hopes His Children Will Do Something More "Challenging" Than Becoming Nepo Babies

"I want you to do something that's challenging, go outside of the box."

Nick Cannon has his fingers crossed that his kids don't follow in his footsteps.

The dad of 12 admits that leaning into their "nepo baby" status would be easy for his kids — but he hopes that they do something a little more challenging.

"Out of all my kids, I'm like, if they want to be in entertainment, that's fine, but that's almost easy," Nick said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

He continued, "I want you to do something that's challenging, go outside of the box, so you can see effort and perseverance and those things, because they're a nepo baby."

While Nick gets there are "advantages" to being a nepo baby and it may come "naturally" to his children, he says he'd rather see them do something like sports.

"That's why I love...to see my kids try sports, because it has nothing to do with anything. It literally is however much work you put in, how hard you go, that's how you'll succeed in that space," he explained.

Nick added, "They can learn all of those cool principles through having fun with their friends. I'm hoping for a few athletes. I hope I can be that dad on the sidelines somewhere rooting for them."

But at the end of the day, Nick says "If they want to be accountants or equestrians," he doesn't care.

And while he doesn't quite want them to follow in his footsteps professionally, he hopes they share his passions, like music.

Nick explained that he wishes he'd learned "theory and all the musicality at a very young age," so he's now "giving them that gift" by putting them in music lessons.

"I'm like, 'Look, you're gonna get the lessons. You're gonna know how now you can do whatever you want to do. You get to impress the girls, or you can make a career out of it,'" Nick said.

And if it all works out, Nick admits he has been "thinking about" starting a family band.

"I'll put everybody on a bus," he joked. "I honestly do think about that, though, because music is just in my blood and that is where we find joy in our household, so I would love it."
