Congratulations are in order for Kate Bosworth and Justin Long!
The couple just confirmed that they are officially engaged — just about a year after first sparking dating rumors.
"These things are funny to announce. How to do this right? He’s going the distance? I’ve got a Blue Crush? He’s just THAT into me? I’ve won a date with…???" Kate jokingly shared on her Instagram.
While Justin recently popped the question, the proposal has been months in the making as the actor says he originally "had a special thing planned around" Kate's 40th birthday in January.
"Things change, and sometimes, they change pretty drastically without any warnings," Justin explained on his Life Is Short podcast, where Kate was a special guest.
Instead, the proposal came about in a much more "organic" way after the couple had gone through a "really hard thing" together.
In the midst of their personal challenge, the couple decided to see a therapist — and her advice ended up being a big part of the proposal.
"We were trying to move through things at the time, and she gave us a really great piece of advice which was, 'Make sure that you're pretty consistently asking the other what you need, or asking the other what they need,'" Kate explained, with Justin noting that sometimes people forget to do that when they're "suffering."
She continued, "I remember waking up not so many mornings after that therapy session, and I looked at Justin...I smiled at you, and I said, 'What do you need?'"
That's when Kate says Justin replied, "To spend my life with you" — which Kate didn't even realize was a proposal at first.
"I smiled, and I said, 'Well, yeah, you have that. Oh my gosh, you have that,' and he said, 'No, I mean I really want to spend my life with you,'" Kate explained.
