Surgeon General Warns GOP Debate Drinking Games Could Prove Deadly

"Americans are advised to take caution and drink plenty of water."

Public health officials, including United States Surgeon General Vivek Murthy are asking Americans to exercise caution should they participate in the myriad of drinking games that have infiltrated social media networks in association with the first Republican primary debate this Thursday.

“It would be considerably dangerous to imbibe every time one of these men says something ridiculous,” said Murthy during a press conference early Wednesday morning. “Considering Donald Trump is even being allowed to speak during the primary debate, let alone contend for the nomination is just a recipe for disaster."

Janet Gunderson, a toxicologist for the World Health Organization, suggests that individuals play more moderate versions of the proposed games, such as only drinking when the candidates answer the questions directly with a reasonable response.

"This way the games can also be more inclusive to individuals practicing sobriety or just choosing not to drink that evening."

“The healthcare community isn't saying that you shouldn't have fun or revel in the decline of Western civilization as we know it,” Gunderson continued.

"We just ask that you exercise caution and drink responsibility. Instead of taking a shot every time Scott Walker reminds us how he deprived Wisconsin of crucial social programming and aid, subsequently preventing the next civil war led by rogue workers unions, perhaps drink when Ben Carson suggests that although he doesn't personally favor abortion, it should a decision best left discussed between a woman and her healthcare provider,” she said. “And that drink could even become cathartic when Donald Trump inevitably interrupts to say nothing good ever came from letting women call the shots. ”

The debate will be moderated by Fox Network political commentators Megyn Kelly, Chris Wallace, and Bret Baier, beginning at 9 p.m. EST on Thursday, August 7.
