I agree "extreme poverty" was a bad choice of words. However, it wasn't meant to be offensive and she was simply trying to explain the shock for her son going from living in wealth to struggling to make ends meet. Compared to living in a million dollar home not wanting for anything…

Sitting on a chair in front of a mirror curling my hair, I dropped the curling iron and reflexively caught the iron between my legs. Ended up with second degree burns on both and have a 4 inch scar to show for it.
