    Last night a young man stormed Dutch national broadcaster NOS with a gun – subsequently found to be fake – and demanded to be put on air.

    He paced around the studio, demanding airtime.

    He also handed over a letter to staff at the channel (subsequently published on the NOS website), threatening bomb and cyber attacks.

    According to the AP, he claimed to be from a "hackers' collective".

    He surrendered immediately when armed police approached him.

    The BBC reported that the man, believed to be from Pijnacker, near The Hague, is being held on suspicion of making a threat, weapons possession, and taking a hostage.

    The broadcaster went off air for an hour after he invaded the studio.
