This Woman Was Beaten On Her Wedding Night By Her Husband Because He "Couldn't Get Her Dress Off"

Amy Dawson said she thought her new husband "was going to kill me" during the horrifying attack.

Last year, she married her long-term partner, Gavin Golightly, 29, at a church wedding in County Durham.

The couple, who have a child together, then had a reception at Beamish Hall, a country hotel. Upon returning to their room, Dawson asked Golightly to help her remove her dress.

According to The Mirror, an argument broke out after he was unable to, and he beat her badly. During the attack he threw her to the floor, sat on her and began punching her, leaving her with a cut eyebrow and bruised face and chest. She eventually managed to escape him and contacted a hotel porter, who called the police.

Golightly later claimed his drink had been spiked, but pleaded guilty to assault at Peterlee Magistrates Court.

Dawson told The Mirror his behaviour had changed since the birth of their child:

When I first met Gavin, he was lovely, I couldn't fault him. He was caring and loving, and when we found we were having baby, we were delighted. I fell pregnant after eight months, but almost straight away, Gavin became controlling and manipulative. It was like walking on eggshells. When he lashed out at me on my wedding night, I thought I was going to die. I was terrifed. He looked like he was going to kill me.

Golightly was given a 12-month community order along with a restraining order preventing him from contacting Dawson.

Paul Elliott, the chair of the bench at the court, told him: "You do know that when your custody report was asked for, custody was an option because this was a serious assault. But your early guilty plea and mitigation mean that we will give you a 24-month community order with the requirement of supervision."

Dawson told the Daily Mail: "The community order was far too soft. The restraining order is the only thing keeping me strong. He means nothing to me now."
