The Former Miss Spain Came Out In A Touching, "Impulsive" Instagram Post

Having previously struggled with her sexuality, Patricia Yurena had a joyous announcement to make.

Yurena is now the first openly gay winner of Miss Spain.

She told La Opinión de Tenerife, a local paper: "I don't regret what I did and I did it because I'm happy about what's going on in my life."

IBTimes reports that she'd previously written a blogpost in February about struggling with her sexuality. She'd apparently wondered "Why God had made me wrong".

    She wrote:

Ideally, I would love to one day live in a society where coming out is no longer necessary because we don't make assumptions about one another's sexuality and homophobia is laid to rest. For now, that is more of an ideal than it is a reality. But if you want to see that ideal become a reality and you have the courage to change history.

Her partner, Vanessa Klein, is best known as a house DJ.

It seems they've been inundated with support.

The Daily Mail reports that Yurena might be the last person to hold the crown, after the company that organises the contest went bust.
