Ruby Tandoh From "The Great British Bake Off" Came Out And The Internet's Still Celebrating

Although Paul Hollywood wasn't very happy about how she did it.

So in case you missed it, yesterday Ruby Tandoh, a former Great British Bake Off contestant, came out as gay.

me to my parents today. feeling lucky and joyful and f r e e. over and Out.

And she used a Diana Ross video to do it, which basically made it the coolest coming-out announcement of all time.

If you don't remember her, she looks like this, and was the runner-up in 2013.

No, there really is a whole Tumblr devoted to her facial expressions.

Nowadays she writes for the Guardian and regularly posts pictures on the internet that are tantamount to pornography.

one for me, none for you: banana cake w light lemon glaze

This needs to go in my face.

As does this.

go green: cardamom & white chocolate pistachio cake and rose, raspberry & pistachio tartlets

And this.

the result - iced w a simple coffee-cocoa butter cream and infused with sadness

I need to stop now. Anyway.

Twitter sent her a whole bunch of positive messages at the time, and it's STILL celebrating.

@rubytandoh wishing you a wonderful happy life. So pleased we live in a world where you can do this . I shall bake in your honour

A quick trawl of Ms Tandoh's faves reveals that she's still getting inundated with messages of support.

You will inspire lots more people now @rubytandoh to be brave & true. You are bloody brilliant!! xo

@rubytandoh Hello, gorgeous Ruby (my namesake). Congratulations & good luck with everything ❤

@rubytandoh congrats! Such pride🌈 xo

Although there was one slightly awkward moment. After she came out, she added these tweets...

& to all the bros who hate social media, who pit it against 'real life'- i never would've had courage to be me w/out twitter's queer queens

p.s. for those who thought I fancied Paul Hollywood or that I'd ever bang him to get ahead - JOKE'S ON YOU, YOU MASSIVE SHITTING MISOGYNISTS

...whereupon Paul Hollywood said this.

@rubytandoh very happy for you Ruby... but why do you feel it necessary bringing me into your announcement ?

Hollywood would go on to say that he'd responded in that way because his family might read the tweets. At the time of the show's recording, Hollywood had well-publicised marital troubles: His wife kicked him out of the family home after learning about an affair he'd had, but they later got back together.

Aaannyway, congratulations, Ruby!

Since coming out, Tandoh has subsequently added these tweets.

THANK YOU all for a response that made me feel like I'd been swaddled in the rainbow flag and cradled like a baby. all Pride, no prejudice.

and to those who came out yesterday, spurred on by the love/support you saw on here - I am so fucking happy for you and a bit teary too tbh
