Oh dear.

This afternoon the Paddy Power Offers Twitter account decided this was a good way to advertise a blog about Newcastle FC's away performances against Liverpool.

An hour on and lots of angry comments later, it's still live.

@UnhappyZouma @PPOffers someon's getting fired

@TheMikelRole its been up for an hour and not deleted ffs, unreal

It's hardly the first time the bookmaker has courted controversy with its marketing.

Only a couple of months ago an advert featuring a team of players wearing Middle Eastern robes caused a real stir.

And last year an advert offering “money back if he walks” for punters betting on the outcome of the Oscar Pistorius murder trial attracted thousands of complaints.

Paddy Power told BuzzFeed News: "It’s clearly an acerbic reference to recent police activity in the US. And obviously, no offence was meant.”
