A Man Has Been Arrested After Mistaking A Policewoman For A Stripper

Incident described in court as "an unfortunate affair".

Peterlee magistrates' court has been hearing the somewhat unfortunate case of Paul Harbord, a rigger, 28.

Harbord had spent all day drinking in the Black Bull in County Durham when a female police officer walked in. One of his friends had told him to expect "entertainment", and he wrongly assumed she was a stripper. So he danced in front of her and waved a beer towel in her face, whereupon she promptly arrested him.

He still refused to believe she was a police officer until they got to the station.

He admitted to obstructing a police officer and was given a six-month conditional discharge. He was ordered to pay £85 and a £15 victim surcharge.
