Melanie defeated Ukrainian Olga Savchuk 6-3, 6-0 in her first match Monday. Her next match will be Wednesday, against Alona Bondarenko (also Ukranian).
Melanie explains her word choice: “Well, I just decided to put the word “courage” this year as something different, and I really think I need to play with courage this year after I had a great run last year.” (She is 18, cut her some slack.)
