1. The Rib Man, Brick Lane Rib Man If you eat meat, and you like ribs (who doesn't?) then either you have tried Rib Man and are a convert, or you're in for a treat. He dishes up full racks, half racks, rib meat rolls and rib meat wraps of low and slow smoked happy pork. Get a rack from £8, or a roll for £7 – and grab a bottle of his hot sauce to take home. 2. Padella, Borough Market Padella Padella will serve you the best hand-rolled pasta this side of Rome, and leave you with change from a tenner at the same time. The menu changes, but you should be able to do a cacio e pepe (£6) and a bruschetta (£4.50) and nudge over a tenner. 3. Roti King, Euston Facebook: rotikinglondon It's hard to wrong at this mouth-watering Malaysian place. Look at that fluffy fresh roti, and the bowl of steaming curry. You can get a roti canai (the above combo) for £5.50 – meaning you could take a date, and only just about go over a tenner. Bingo. 4. Taro, Soho View this photo on Instagram Instagram: @wellingtonroger108 Taro used to be my drunk food go-to post Madame Jojo's, but it's just as good sober. Their sushi is great, but for a cheap bite you can't beat their Salmon Teri Don – a tightly packed box of yummy rice, and teriyaki salmon for £9.50. The portions are huge, I've never managed to finish one. 5. Elephant, Brixton Market Elephant This cheap and cheerful Pakastani joint only has four things on the menu: Thali (veg, chicken, keema), daal, pakora and samosas. The Thali comes neatly in at £9.25 and is a hefty portion. 6. The Regency Café, Pimlico View this photo on Instagram instagram.com "It's an awesome art deco building that has barely changed since it first opened. Loads of things have been filmed there. It's great for a well priced fry up in a loud and very traditional setting. Also you can get a big slice of apple pie and custard like a school dinner. It's a lot of fun!" says Sophie. 7. Zeret Kitchen, Camberwell View this photo on Instagram instagram.com "This Ethiopian restaurant really doesn't look like much from outside, but for a tenner a head (minimum two people) you can get the Zeret Surprise. The menu calls it "a combination of kitfo, lega tibs, yebeg fitfit, spiced chicken-tibs, atkilt, shuro and salad". As a newcomer to Ethiopian food I recognised about two of those words, but I swear these assorted meat and veg dishes were tastier than 95% of the mystery pastes I have crammed into my mouth over the years. They all come served on one massive disc of injera and you eat the whole thing with your hands." – Lyle Brennan. 8. ICCO, Goodge Street View this photo on Instagram instagram.com Look, I'm not saying ICCO is the best pizza in London. And I'm not saying it's the best pizza in London for under a tenner. But it is damn good, damn cheap, and freshly cooked damn quick. The Margherita is £3.95, for example. If you want other London pizza reccs, step this way. 9. King of Falaffel, Clerkenwell View this photo on Instagram instagram.com There's plenty of cheap eats to be found on Leather Lane, but at the King of Falaffel, there's spectacle too. You'll have to queue, but it's worth it. Choose your wrap, choose your sauce, and watch it whirl around in front of you. Get the pickles too. Always get the pickles. It'll cost you under £5 and will keep you full 'til supper. 10. Savage Salads, Soho Savage Salads For £6, you get: four freshly made and hearty salads (today it was: panzanella, sweet potato and couscous, orzo and peppers, cabbage slaw), chicken, halloumi and bread. And it is so delicious that I recommend you buy their cookbook too. 11. Gokyuzu, Green Lanes Goykuzu Just try their lamb shish (£8 with hunks of lamb and loads of salad), and banish all thoughts of "greasy" kebabs forever. Or you could load up on endless hummus and mezze and see how far your tenner will take you. 12. Beigel Bake, Brick Lane Trip Advisor Salt beef stacked high on a plain bagel, astronomical amounts of English mustard, and all your dreams come true for £3.50. 13. Daddy Donkey, Clerkenwell Daddy Donkey Daddy Donkey's giant burritos are delicious, and in the grand scheme of charging extra for guacamole, they're not too bad (only 75p). They're stuffed with nice extras too – like coriander and lime rice, sour cream and black beans as standard. Nothing on the menu is over £6.50 – and their chicken (£5.95) is worth the visit alone. 14. Bleecker Street Burger, Spitafields/ Canary Wharf/ Southbank/ Dalston Bleecker Street Bleecker Street know their burgers. And for £10, you can get a perfect cheeseburger with a side of Angry Fries (that's fries with hot sauce and blue cheese sauce). If you want to spend your tenner all in one go, there's only one choice: The Bleecker Black. It's got double beef, double cheese, black pudding, onion and sauce. Amazing. 15. Japan Centre, Piccadilly Circus Japan Centre This Japanese food hall is a hidden gem. Emma writes:"They easily do some of the best value takeaway sushi in the city. You can get 4 pieces of sushi for about £3 to £4, which is cheaper than most of the UK’s bog-standard sushi chains. And it’s better quality too." 16. Arepa and Co, Haggerston Arepa and Co Gluten and wheat free, these delicious Venezuelan delights are all you could ever want. The above arepa is stuffed with shredded beef, cheddar, black beans and plantains and comes in at £7.50. Perfect. 17.
