7 Tiny Changes You Should Try Out This Week

Just some small things to make your life better.

    1. If you've got 3 minutes: Visit Calming Manatee.

This charming website has endless images of kindly manatees, who want to help you get on with your day. I keep it open in a browser tab constantly.

    2. If you've got 5 minutes: Sing along to a song you love.

    Apple Music

You know, just really go for it. Belt it out loud and proud. My current favourite is "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" by Céline Dion, as it's emotionally overwrought and allows for lots of hand gestures.

    3. If you've got 10 minutes: Read this blog post about Instagram perfection vs real life.

    Kayla Yandoli

Author Erin Loechner writes about how she learned to understand her envy of other people's perfect Instagram lives:

"I did not sit with my feelings of inadequacy long enough to realize they were not feelings of inadequacy at all. They were a recognition of someone else’s small successes, someone else’s adequacies, someone else’s triumphs...

"And in my small mind, I twisted someone else’s happiness to mean there would be none left for me."

    4. If you've got 15 minutes: Throw out something that doesn't fit you.

This truly inspiring essay by Arianna made me chuck out a dress that was just never going to happen for me. She writes:

"And so I will share with you what I wish someone had shared with me: If you open your closet and realize things are no longer fitting you, you don’t have to assign it any emotional significance. You haven’t failed. You can just buy some new clothes, or tailor the ones you have. I promise that it’s not a big deal, and that you’ll wish you’d done it a whole lot sooner."

    5. If you've got 20 minutes: Leave the house to read.

    Chelsey Pippin

You don't have to go to the park! You can read your book in a local coffee shop. You don't even have to spend money – you can go to your local library and find a new book to read there.

    6. If you've got 30 minutes: Watch Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

    Chelsey writes:

"That Rachel Bloom was not nominated for an Emmy for this show is a crime. That the incredibly fun and smart first season is currently streaming on Netflix in the UK is a miracle. With a really tongue-in-cheek but nuanced look at mental health, love, and friendship, it’s a killer way to binge your way through the weekend and yet feel ~cultured~ at the same time."

    7. If you've got 30 seconds: Read this tweet.

REMINDER Googling 'Llamas at Machu Picchu' gives you pages of llamas who look like they're posing for holiday photos
