26 #BlackOutEid Selfies That Will Completely Make Your Day

The hashtag is a spin-off of #BlackOutDay, which is dedicated to "celebrating the beauty of blackness."

Today is Eid Al-Adha, a day of celebration for Muslims around the world. Members of the African diaspora are tweeting GORGEOUS selfies with the hashtag #BlackoutEid as they did during Eid Al-Fitr when the hashtag first trended.

I wanna see how all my Black Muslims look on / celebrate Eid so if u want to tweet under the HT #BlackOutEid that'd be lit πŸ”…πŸ”† #EidMubarak

Eid Al-Adha, the second Eid in the Muslim calendar year, commemorates the sacrifice of Abraham and is celebrated with prayer and meat shared with the poor and family. #BlackoutEid was started by Aamina Mohamed, who tweets under @krennylavitz. Mohamed told BuzzFeed she "wanted to see how other Black Muslims celebrated Eid" and that it was inspired by #BlackMuslimRamadan. It's also an extension of #BlackOutDay.

Proponents argue that it's a necessary act of self-love as Black Muslims are rarely represented in the media.

#BlackOutEid - This hashtag makes me so happy.. Black Muslim excellence since we never get represented in the media! ✌🏾️

    #BlackMuslimRamadan #BlackOutEid = beautiful & mature. It's one thing 2 decry racism a whole other level 2 unapologetically love one's self.

@msra7ua2 the reason for #BlackOutEid is because we black Muslims get no recognition! Watch the eid snapchat story;are there any blacks?
