    2023 has been a wild year so far. We started off with nepo baby discourse, followed by a round of Prince Harry's memoir – and to top it all off, it's absolutely prime time for unexpected celeb couples right now.

    So, we thought we'd round up nine 2023 celebrity pairings we would never have guessed even had each other's IG. Enjoy:

    1. Kelis and Bill Murray (apparently!)

    It seems that the boys the famous singers' milkshake brought to the yard were, in fact, 72-year-old comedian Bill Murray. While the pair aren't confirmed yet, Bill Murray was recently spotted at the Mighty Hoopla and Cross The Tracks festivals in London (Kelis was playing both events). Both have experienced the recent loss of a spouse – last year, Kelis lost her then-husband Mike Mora to cancer, whereas Murray's separated ex-wife passed in 2021.

    2. Avril Lavigne and Tyga

    True KUWTK fans have known about Avril Lavigne's complicated ties to both the Kardashian family and Tyga for a while now. But for those of us (like myself) who were ignorant of the connections, sightings of the pop star cosying up to rapper Tyga at Paris Fashion Week came as a real – but sort of not unwelcome? – surprise. Avril Lavigne split from fiancé Mod Sun just weeks before the smooch, but she and Tyga have known each other for years; and it seems their relationship is still going strong.

    3. Emily Ratajkowski and Eric André

    “I want what Emily Ratajkowski & Eric Andre have” is something I never thought I would say out loud.

    Okay, okay, so the pair are only allegedly dating (though that hand is DEFINITELY on her waist). Still, after a very public breakup from ex-footballer Gerard Piqué last year, it appears Shakira has moved on to faster, British-er, and potentially more strawberry jam-aligned pastures. After being spotted having dinner after Hamilton's recent Grand Prix finish, speculation about the pair has taken over the Internet (I just want to know where they met).

    5. Taylor Swift and Matty Healy

    Though the pair have recently broken up, I'm willing to bet very, very few of us had The 1975 singer and Taylor Swift's relationship on our 2023 bingo cards. It's safe to say that most Swifties were less than keen on the match – after all, he's been accused of racism, has made some very sus comments about Ice Spice, and appears to have even said it'd be "emasculating" to date Taylor Swift. No comment from me...

    6. Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet

    The pair were first rumoured to be dating in April, and since then, responses have been... mixed. Some people are accusing the duo of doing it for the PR, while others just wonder what it is the makeup mogul and actor talk about. To add fuel to the fire, Kylie recently filmed a TikTok from her bedroom in which she seemed distracted. "I have to go," she said, smirking at the camera while looking at something – or someone – off-screen. And though yes, the pair are supposedly only "casual" right now, and while the video did happen to mention her upcoming lipline, I can sort of see it? What can I say, I'm a romantic.

    7. Kendall Jenner and Bad Bunny

    The rumours began in February, and since then the model and musician have been spotted together multiple times. They appear to have started dating soon after Kendall broke up with NBA star Devin Booker and Bad Bunny broke up with jewellery designer Gabriela Berlingeri. Not necessarily a bad match, but just... not one I'd ever have imagined?

    8. Selena Gomez and Drew Taggart (again, allegedly)

    No, the pair haven't confirmed anything, but rumours that the singer and Chainsmokers band member were together began circulating around January. Us Weekly described their "very casual and low-key relationship,” one which followed Taggert's breakup with Eve Jobs. While Gomez has since been spotted with Zayn Malik, it's all very vague – still, I weirdly like the expected Selena/Drew pairing?

    9. Chilli and Matthew Lawrence

    Okay, okay, so the TLC singer and actor technically got together in late 2022. But the news of their relationship really took off in January after a People interview, where Chilli's rep confirmed the pair. Matthew Lawrence had broken up with ex-wife Cheryl Burke a few months before the duo began getting to know each other, leading to the ultimate '90s fever dream.
