30 Things To Help You Stop Saying "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things"

Things to help you have a stain/burn/scratch/______-free life!

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, BuzzFeed may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

    1. A set of furniture socks to keep your floors safe from scratches and make you feel like you have a pet (kind of).

    amazon.com

Promising review: "I love these. Cute way to keep wood-on-wood surfaces safe from scratches. We live in a loft so they reduce noise level and stabilize some wonky chair legs." —S Rhodes

Get them from Amazon for $11.98 (available in five colors).

    2. A car seat protector so you can ride around with the only acceptable back seat driver without getting pet hair all over your vehicle.

    amazon.com

Promising review: "Great cover, worth the price. I purchased the XL size for my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It gave perfect coverage of the back seat. The anchors tucked into the seat and held in place for the entire nine hour-trip last week. The best feature, and reason I decided on this cover, is the 'hammock' straps that attach to the head rests of the front seats. My dog had ACL surgery on both of her back legs six months ago and it could really set her recovery back if she partially fell into the foot wells in the back seat during a sudden stop or turn. I'm very happy with the quality of materials and stitching; should last for a long time. Definitely recommend!" —Erik

Get it from Amazon for $59.99+ (available in three colors and two sizes).

    3. A pack of 100 cabinet bumpers because you die a little inside every time someone slams your beautiful (and expensive) cabinets, but these will help.

    amazon.com

Get them from Amazon for $4.75.

    4. A scratch post for your cat to sharpen their paws on instead of using your furniture.

    amazon.com

Promising review: "I'm on here because I'm buying another one of these. According to Amazon, I purchased my first one about 5.5 years ago. Considering the whole purpose of this item is to get damaged day in and day out, that's impressive. If you're wondering whether it's worth it to splurge for something like this versus buying those horrible cardboard scratchers every week, the answer is an emphatic yes. I've got two cats that use this multiple times daily. It's heavy enough to be used by larger cats (one of mine is 15 lbs). It's built rock solid and has survived multiple moves, and even now, though I'm buying a new one, it could probably be turned around and used for another year." —ExtraTrstl

Get it from Amazon for $41.99.

    5. A set of heel protectors to keep your favorite heels from sinking into the grass and getting dirty.

    amazon.com

Promising review: "These are a must have to protect your shoes! If you are standing in soft grass it helps you to keep from sinking into the ground. I've ruined so many of my nice heels but these will save my future shoes! I wish I had these for my wedding! They snap on and off so easily. I will be keeping a pair in my car for emergency situations." —Anna Baker

Get them from Amazon for $9.99+ (available in two colors and three sizes).

    6. And a pack of four heel tip protectors for reviving heels with tips that have been stomped down to the nail.

    amazon.com

Promising review: "The extra small caps fit perfectly on my ultra spiked stilettos. The original heel tips deteriorated completely after a few long walks, so I bought these caps to repair the shoes. It took a little effort to get the caps onto the heels, but I think they will hold up well. I walked around in the shoes a bit to test the caps, and the shoes feel much safer now than they did before. The caps also make the shoes much quieter. No more noisy clicking with every step." —Emily Contompasis

Get them from Amazon for $9.99 (available in two colors and four sizes).

    7. A curved baby bib so the half of the meal that doesn't make it into their mouth won't ruin their cute outfit.

    amazon.com

Promising review: "We have been using these for over a year now with my 2-year-old and they are great bibs. We don't use anything else anymore. They are both still in perfect condition after almost daily use for over a year! They are so easy to clean and they save so much food from falling into my son's lap and messing up his clothes. They are especially great for liquids like soup. Definitely recommend these bibs!" —Jennifer M. Oslon

Get them from Amazon for $12.98 (available in two colors combos).

    8. A fabric protector spray that'll make fabrics repel water and stains. No more wine mishaps!

    amazon.com

Promising review: "I got this for my pillows. Having a 4-year-old and a 7-year-old who are constantly making messes in the living room, I was a bit fed up with replacing my pillows due to stains. The spraying was easy and quick, then I left them outside to air out. Today I noticed a big splatter of dried up ketchup on the pillow. I took a wet paper towel and rubbed off the stain. It came off completely! Nothing seeped through the fabric. I just wish I used this sooner!" —Lidia

Get it from Amazon for $8.98 (also available for auto fabric and carpets for $5.77 or shoes for $8.50).

    amazon.com

Get them from Amazon for $13.90.

    11. A mattress protector because sometimes the liquids won't be as harmless as what's coming out of that cup below.

    amazon.com

Promising review: "My wife went into labor a year and a half ago and that labor went very quickly....so quickly that she ended up giving birth on our bed in the presence of EMTs. We then went to the hospital where I stayed overnight with my wife and new baby girl. The next day, once things had clamed down, I went home to clean up before they came home. For those who have witnessed or gone through child birth, you know what a mess I arrived to. For those who haven't, suffice to say there are many different types of fluids and a lot of them. Let's just say I was fully expecting to be purchasing a new mattress. To my amazement, once I'd bagged our sheets and this mattress pad, our mattress was perfectly fine. I bought another one immediately and will continue to use this brand as long as it exists. I challenge anyone to put it through a more rigorous test and I'm positive it can stand up to some sweat or your child's pee in the middle of the night. I could have posted a pic but it's better for everyone if I don't." —Kevin C.

Get it from Amazon for $24.95+ (available in six sizes).

    12. A stainless steel cleaning spray and microfiber cloth that'll take your fridge from smudged to sparkling!

    amazon.com

Get it from Amazon for $14.97.

    13. A pack of two seat kick mats for kiddos who just can't control their kicking.

    amazon.com

These could be lifesavers when you're trying to resell your car or return a lease!

Promising review: "Recently got my car detailed and then noticed this staccato thumping from the back seat...oh yay my toddler has found a new way to entertain herself. Knowing that her shoes see sand and mud puddles galore I immediately began hunting for some seat protection. These work great. Nicely priced, large enough to cover the whole seat, and I specifically didn't want one with a bulkier organizer because I figured she would get her foot caught and shriek 'I'm stuck' for our car travels. I'm so proud she can self entertain and now she won't have to do it at the expense of my seat backs." —Leah

Get them from Amazon for $14.97.

    14. A spandex luggage cover so when the airport staff tosses it around like a piece of garbage, it doesn't come back to you looking like a piece of garbage.

    amazon.com

Promising review: "I bought the cover to protect new luggage, a pretty red color that would look pretty bad on just one flight if not protected. I really like the cover. It does protect most exposed parts of the luggage from the grease and black soil and grit that it runs through in the luggage handling process. It also is a deterrent from anyone trying to quickly open the bag and possibly remove any of my belongings. It's washable but not all stains will wash out so consider that when picking a color or pattern for your cover. I've had several compliments from the airline counter, to passengers and fellow travelers, to people just walking in the airport. That said, over the course of several flights, one of my covers were scraped and torn in a small area so the cover isn't damage-free. I ordered a new one and may try to actually use beneath the torn one on my next travel for double protection. Much easier to get a new cover than a costly new suitcase. Best of all my luggage is still looking great so well worth the purchase of the cover." —Terry S.

Get it from Amazon for $6.99+ (available 10 colors, sizes S–XL).

    15. A couch protector — it'll be way more comfortable than the plastic your grandma uses to cover *her* couches.

    amazon.com

This is perfect for protecting nice couches from pets!

Promising review: "This cover is great! Our couch and loveseat aren't super high quality, but with two toddlers and a dog, I wanted something inexpensive that I could throw in the washing machine. I got it more to collect crumbs and dog hair than anything else, and it does that well. It's well-made (especially for the price point) and easy to install. I love this type of cover SO much more than the more traditional full couch cover; this cover is much more versatile for a variety of couch shapes and sizes. I'm going to get another one of these covers for our couch as well." —J. Maclauchlan

Get it from Amazon for $28.99 (available in nine colors and seven sizes).

    16. A granite sealer to protect your precious countertops from spills and stains.

    amazon.com

Promising review: "The day after installing the granite countertop, it got a wine stain. Even water from a glass would soak into the granite. I didn't realize that granite needs to be sealed. The product was easy to use. I can definitely tell it is working and have not had any problems since. It's a must to protect the countertop investment!" —Jim

Get it from Amazon for $19.49.

    17. A door guard so your pooch doesn't scratch up the door frame every time they're begging for a walk.

    amazon.com

Promising review: "OK, so it's really not the prettiest door guard but we could not be happier with this purchase. We trained our puppy to use a bell to go outside but she prefers to body slam the bell and then claw at the bell for dear life. This entire process made me want to cry watching her destroy our brand new house. This hangs past the door and it protects the wood trim and wall as well. We could not live without it." —C. Guss

Get it from Amazon for $25.95.

    18. A step through gate for keeping babies and pets confined to areas where they can do the least damage.

    amazon.com

Get it from Amazon for $32.

    amazon.com

Get it from Amazon for $14.99.

    20. An oven liner so cooking fails will be way easier to clean up.

    amazon.com

Promising review: "I love these liners. When stuff drips, I can just take it out and clean it in my sink in soapy water or throw it in the dishwasher. Don't have to scrub the bottom of the oven. Just remove the liner carefully. Less need to turn on the self-cleaning feature and endure the smells and smoke that are emitted as part of that process. The worst is usually the floor of the oven and this minimizes the problem." —wifi-er

Get it from Amazon for $16.95.

    21. A bitter nail polish — it may help you keep your manicure looking nice for more than five minutes.

    amazon.com

Promising review: "I've been nervously biting my nails awhile. Imagine my embarrassment as an adult looking down to see my stubs of shame. Trying to kick this habit, I gave up and bought Mavala Stop. It's been five days and nary a nibble has occurred. I highly recommend the product. It is a great way to realize how much you mindlessly bite. I layer my Mavala stop on top of freshly painted nails. I have a lovely glitter manicure now that I will not chew on. Be aware though, finger foods are gross now. Which could be good if you are a snacker. I can't wait to see what my nails look like next week!" —Pie the Cat

Get it from Amazon for $15.50.

    22. An eye glass chain because it'll be cheaper to buy a chain than to replace your glasses for the hundredth time.

    amazon.com

    23. A pack of at-home dry cleaner cloths so you don't wear your nice shirts once and then leave them in the hamper for a year while you procrastinate a trip to the cleaners. You're better than that!

    amazon.com

Promising review: "I immediately used these on our wool, winter coats, suit jackets and on one velvet skirt. everything came out fresh as a daisy and without any issue. Quite happy with this product, saved me a hefty dry cleaning bill and there are still a few left in the pack so it will continue saving me money. FYI, one sheet is good for cleaning two garments, even two heavy coats." —Sabrina

    25. A fire extinguishing aerosol spray to show kitchen fires who's boss.

    amazon.com

Promising review: "Buy a few of these and replace your fire extinguishers.

I unfortunately got to finally use one of these on a malfunctioning appliance that burned out and caught the plastic molding on fire. Within five seconds, the fire and the noxious smoke were reduced to nothing. I also only used half a can. This is a great asset to have in any home. I definitely recommend this." —Dejan Deh

    amazon.com

    For iPhones 6, 6S, 7, and 8.

Promising review: "I had JUST received my new iPhone 7, literally a week before. I had a jacket tied around my waist and my phone was in my left pocket. I got in the car and closed the door hard, but it wouldn't close, so I did it again. I suddenly realized that my jacket was hanging out of the door and my phone was what was preventing me from getting the door closed. I looked at the phone and it looked like the phone's screen was shattered and, I assumed, I now owned a ruined $700 phone. It wasn't until I called Apple for help or confession, thinking I had killed my phone, that it was revealed that the screen protector was what had cracked, saving my phone from disaster. I ordered a new one immediately and from now on I'll rely on this protector as long as I have a phone. And there are two per box!" —Kerry Flynn

    27. A Furminator de-shedding pet brush because you love your big fluff ball, but you'd probably love them more if every surface of your home wasn't covered in fur.

    amazon.com

Promising review: "Wow! Just received this today and it is an amazing product. It feels very sturdy and I love the button on top that allows you to release the hair. We have an Australian Cattle Dog who has a very thick double coat and is constantly shedding. We need to vacuum every day to keep up with the hair. I opened the package for the FURminator and immediately started brushing our dog. He sat so well while I brushed him and enjoyed it the whole time. I couldn’t believe how much hair the FURminator removed from his coat. His coat is especially thick near his hindquarters and there was a lot of hair removed from that area. It was incredible. I’m so glad I ordered this product. It will save me money in the future by not having to pay for brush outs from the groomer." —R. Strobele

It has not shown any signs of coming apart or wearing out. I love it because I can use it on my stove cooktop without scratching it and it still cleans well!
