British novelist PG Wodehouse (1881-1975) was a master of bathos, dialogue, metaphor, whimsy, straight-forward gags... the whole shebang, basically. No author has matched his ability to produce genuinely, consistently hilarious books at a staggering rate - at the time of his death he'd completed 96 novels and was working on his 97th.
