How To Take On Your First Adult Responsibilities Like A Boss

You can totally rock this adulting thing. ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses are here to help you open your eyes to a new, exciting stage of life.

1. Make cleaning a race against the clock!

Tyler Naugle / BuzzFeed

Every time you need to vacuum, dust, or clean the bathroom (yes, toilet included, sorry 'bout it), set a timer and go to it. Keep track of your times and work to shave off seconds each sesh. Soon you'll be a super-efficient cleaning MACHINE.

2. Keep productivity at 💯.

Tyler Naugle / BuzzFeed

You know why our parents used to get so much stuff done back in the day? They didn't have smartphones. Yeah, they had TVs, but maybe just one (and Grandma hogged it). If you want to finish a specific task on time, say a temporary "bye" to texts and social media, play some jams, set your phone down, and wait until your tasks are done before double-tapping any more food pics. Be strong!

3. Work for learnings, not earnings.

Tyler Naugle / BuzzFeed

Don't wait until you're out of college to get a job. No one expects you to be head over heels with the first gig you choose, but the sooner you can find out what you don't like, the sooner you can focus on what you do like for long-term career OWNAGE!

4. Laundry is forever, so you might as well enjoy it.

Tyler Naugle / BuzzFeed

Dirty laundry is like that clingy ex — it's constantly going to pop up needing attention. Schedule one wash a week and stick to it so it becomes routine, and then fold clothes at the same time you watch your fave show so you get it done almost by inertia #likeaboss.

5. Be nice to your nice things.

Tyler Naugle / BuzzFeed

Hang those silk shirts! Polish those boots! Untangle those necklaces! You'll find taking care of your stuff saves you a lot of money and anxiety in the long run and lets you take on every day lookin' and feelin' fly.

6. Make it social.

Tyler Naugle / BuzzFeed

About time for a workout? Text a friend to jog. Need to run errands? Shopping date! As you get older, spending time with friends gets harder and harder, so prioritize your pals along with your duties so you can tackle tasks together!

7. Cash, baby, cash.

Tyler Naugle / BuzzFeed

If you recently went shopping for a pair of sneakers and decided to supplement your purchase with new headphones, a GPS watch, and seven pairs of neon spandex, it's time to exercise self-control. Carry cash when you shop; it keeps you accountable, because the rich only stay rich by watching their money. Closely.

8. Grocery shop for success.

Tyler Naugle / BuzzFeed

Part of adulting is cutting down on the waffles and actually shopping for and cooking balanced meals! Ensure smart meal decisions with these three tips:

1) Don't shop hungry — this will lead to craving-induced purchases (read: junk food).

2) Shop the perimeter of the store — this is where the fresh produce, dairy, and meats are usually located.

3) Stock up on Sunday for the week — this will eliminate the need for emergency pizza/doughnut runs!

9. Set alarms to avoid late fees.

Tyler Naugle / BuzzFeed

Bills are enough of a bummer already — don't make 'em worse by missing your pay-by date and racking up penalties. Set alarms on your phone to alert yourself when payments are due. Even silent ones are fine, because you KNOW when that screen lights up, you're gonna check it!

10. Give your email inbox plenty of ❤️.

Tyler Naugle / BuzzFeed

It doesn’t matter who you ask — an organized, clutter-free email inbox is so. incredibly. satisfying. Make color-coded labels for important messages, receipts, bills, and travel documents; name your folders cRaZy things; and unsubscribe from the email list of that store you literally went to once and isn’t even in your hometown. Once you have a system you love in place, you’ll probs be having late-night inbox clean-out parties just for kicks!

11. Get yourself interview-ready.

Tyler Naugle / BuzzFeed

Interviewing is a lot like making bomb muffins: Preparation is key. First, mentalize. It’s OK to be nervous, but remind yourself that you’re there because you want and deserve the position. Secondly, show that you're knowledgeable about the company. Lastly, maintain eye contact with the interviewer and pace yourself when speaking. And, also, forget about flashy outfits — go for solids to ~solidify~ that gig.
