Should You Self-Publish Your Next Book?

Let's be real, there's almost no situation where you'll have 100% creative time no matter what, but let's pretend...

How do you like to spend your creative days?

There can be happy-mediums here, but I bet you have a preference!

There isn't a "no marketing, run away" option unless you hire a marketer! Even still, it's something you have to consider.

This is a tough one, since the options can be present in all types of publishing but, ultimately, creators are people-first or product-first. Even if it's by a small margin.

What seems closest to your long-term goal?

This is more for a first-time author (or illustrator if the case may be), but applies even if you have a book or two out there already.

You get to spend your time making your story come to life! That doesn't mean you don't have a lot of work to do, however. You still have to promote yourself, go on book tours, appear at conventions... But at least you'll have a major publisher to a lot of heavy lifting! Still want to try self-publishing your work? I should try **Traditional Publishing**

You enjoy learning new things and managing moving pieces. Most of all, though, you love having total creative control. Publishing all on your own is a lot of work, but in the end, you’ll have a book that is just the way you want it. But self-publishing can be overwhelming. There is a lot to manage.
