10 Most Visually Stunning Films Since 2010

Some films tell complex and heart-wrenching stories; stories that peer into the human soul and expose it. Some films are bloody gorgeous. Here are 10 films of the last 6 years that won on both fronts.

The film that had the whole world screaming WATCH THIS IN 3D! Truly stunning. And frightening. The film won Alfonso Cuaron his first Oscar for best directing, making him the first Hispanic to win the award.

9. Hunt For The Wilderpeople (2016)

Taika Waititi's latest and greatest. The story of a young foster child and his 'Uncle', played by a staunch Sam Neil, exploring the New Zealand bush and running from Child's Services. A comedy, an action-drama, and a visual delight. And one of New Zealand's most successful films.

8. Melancholia (2011)

Lars von Trier's ode to depression is a powerful one, and, while not loved by all, it showcases depression in a way that feels quite visceral to a lot of people who have suffered from it. And aside from all of that, it's god-damn beautiful.

7. Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

While fierce debate can be made of which Anderson film is "the best", I have a soft spot for this sweet tale of young love. Complete with knee-highs, peter-pan collars, and Scouts uniforms, this film may in fact inspire a major wardrobe overhaul.

5. 12 Years A Slave (2013)

Francois Duhamel / Fox Searchlight / Everett Collec

Steve McQueen's Best Picture winning epic is a must-see. It's an important film, and it feels even more so in the current climate. Not just included for it's importance though, 12 Years A Slave is an aesthetic masterpiece.

4. Nocturnal Animals (2016)

In Tom Ford's second outing since A Single Man the designer-cum-director proves he's no fluke. Part thriller, part drama, part walking-fashion-editorial, this film will leave you frightened, awed, and running to purchase your own pair of Tom Ford specs.

While other films imagine the future as shiny and silver, Spike Jonze understands the further we stride the more we nostalgic we become. The world of Her comes complete with fascinating state-of-the-art technology, as well as wire-rim glasses, pocket-books, and letter-writing. It's easy to see the metaphor.
