Design An Apartment And Get An Obscure Manhattan Spot To Visit

You got: Church of St. Luke in the Fields Garden

New York's own secret garden located on 487 Hudson St, between Barrow and Christopher in Greenwich Village next to the Church of St. Luke. Perfect tranquil location to sit and read. The garden itself does not have an official name, but if you walk South from the church you will find the entrance. Also has profound historical significance; when gay marriage was illegal, this Church was one of the first to offer protection to gay couples.

You got: Nuyorican Poets Cafe

One of the funnest spots in the city. The Nuyorican Poets Cafe on 236 E. 3rd St on the Lower East Side hosts weekly slams on Wednesday night where anyone can get up and speak and the audience votes. The music is amazing, the host is hilarious, and the poetry is amazing. While they do have a bar, you don't have to be over 21 to come to the slam.

You got: The Neue Museum

The most beautiful museum in NYC is located on 86th Street and Fifth Avenue. It is actually inside an old house, more specifically a Louis XIII/Beaux-Arts house which is absolutely exquisite. It houses almost exclusively Austrian and German Expressionist art, but even if that's not your thing, it's worth it just for the beautiful architecture of the building itself and to see the famous Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer by Gustav Klimt which has been there since 2006.

You got: The Strand

Though not particularly "obscure," spending an afternoon at the Strand is still one the best things to do in NYC. There's a little bench on the top floor where you can settle down with some headphones and a collection of books and, in my opinion, the practically non-existent cell service actually contributes to the experience. If its too noisy for you to stay long, you can always pick up a few books and cross the street to Union Square Park and settle down on the steps for some quality reading time.

You got: The New York Society Library

Founded in 1754, the New York Society Library is the oldest and most beautiful library in NYC. Located on 53 East 79th Street on the Upper East Side, this lobby and adjoining reading rooms are truly exquisite and open to anyone, while the upper floors are unfortunately members-only. If you do manage to get upstairs at some point, the archive rooms are seemingly endless and nestled between bookshelves are tiny office spaces with gorgeous views of the city that you can use as your own personal work space. The best part — it's always perfectly quiet.

You got: Evolution

The Evolution Store, located on 687 Broadway in SoHo, is the dream of any biology nerd. It is the premiere retail destination for science and natural history collectibles, artifacts, not to mention some really cool skulls. They also have fossils, old anatomy prints, cool taxidermy animals, and edible crickets! Just a heads up, if dead stuff isn't really your thing, maybe not a place you want to check out.

If you like old movies and general hipster stuff, you will freakin' love the Metrograph. Located on 7 Ludlow Street, they have the best movie snacks of all time (a million kinds of artisan popcorn and glass-bottled soda), a mini film-related book store, an awesome restaurant, and, of course, some of the best movie screenings of all time using authentic old-timey film projectors.

NYC's most authentic classic New Yorker diner. Located on 2880 Broadway, Upper West Side, this is the perfect breakfast spot for some poached eggs, toast, and friendly New Yorker conversation. Afterwards, you can stop by Oren's, the coffee shop next door, for an incredible chai latte or go for a stroll in Riverside Park, just a few block West.
