In honor of Veteran's Day, we're acknowledging famous musicians who dedicated a period of their lives to fighting for our freedom. Thanks to all for your service!

1. Elvis Presley

The King of rock 'n' roll took a break from his music career to serve in the Army from March 1958 to March 1960. Although he was offered a position with Special Services, where he would have receive the treatment he was accustomed to as an entertainer, he declined and chose to serve with the other soldiers.

2. Ice-T

The New Jersey-born rapper wrote in his 2011 memoir that he served four years in the 25th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged.

3. Jerry Garcia

The Grateful Dead's founder and lead guitarist joined the Army at just 17 years old. He wasn't the most dedicated soldier, though. By his own admission, he went AWOL more than once.

4. Jimi Hendrix

6. MC Hammer

The Jamaican reggae singer served in the Marine Corps from 1988 to 1992 as an artilleryman. According to him, the Marines taught him discipline that has helped him excel in his music career.
