The New Obama Typeface: Revolution Gothic
A reader points out that President Barack Obama’s new typeface is Revolution Gothic, a style inspired by retro Cuban propaganda posters. Who vets the fonts? (Obama press secretary Ben LaBolt emails: “Your GOP operative should have had the courtesy to stay sober before noon, and BuzzFeed should go back to labeling cat slideshows.”)
“The original font is inspired by retro propaganda posters and wallpainting in Cuba from the 60s to 80s. And the original PAG Revolucion is the most popular font from Prop-A-Ganda.”

pedroq 10 months agoThere are two people this year are really showing they hate Spanish people and finding any way to rub it in! Donald Trump who can’t stand Gay people or any race other than White. He said the he supported Mitt Romney with his suggestions to run the USA 100%. Mitt Romney will not, never support anyone who is Gay. He said; that he will push to deport anyone for any reason, who can’t prove they are a citizen of the US. Now Donald Trump just insulted the Cuban people again with this statement on twitter quote; What a coincidence?! @BarackObama’s campaign logo uses the same font as Cuban communist propaganda posters. unquote; The United States have some beautiful wonderful Cuban American Citizens who love their country and the US. Who are not communist. To imply and insult all Cubans like that, Mr. Trump is horrible and a disgraced! I looked at that poster, the only matching words that is used all over the world on that poster is; ‘AMERICA”! I guess Mitt Romney do support Donald Trump a full 100%.

The only people who would find this interesting are paranoid/deluded conspiracy nuts who can’t seem to realize that Obama is just another garden-variety Wall Street-coopted moderate Democrat doing the best he can with an obstructionist GOP.

hankd 10 months agoI don’t care what the font is called or when it was used before or for what it was used and I sure don’t think the fact that it was used for Cuban propaganda means anything other than as some interesting bit of trivia. Nonetheless, I do know one thing about that font — it is UGLY. U.G.L.Y. it ain’t got no alibi, it’s UGLY. Whoever picked it should be fired — that’s how UGLY that font is. And LaBolt should learn how to respond to things more professionally — he is representing Pres. Obama — cheap snark doesn’t fit the image and I expect better from the POTUS staff.

Yes, Obama should have gone with AMERICA!FUCKYA!!!! Typeface which is made up of eagles, stars, dead Muslims and a mushroom cloud over Hiroshima. I know the GOP has a candidate the rates slightly lower than warm Jell-o in excitement level but really? This is the best you can do? Bitch about fonts?

hildyj 10 months agoI’m all for random typeface outrage (a la Comic Sans god particle revelations) but this is really all the GOP has right now? Trolling the Obama campaign over “Revolution Gothic”? Whatever, they’ll just wind up copying it within 6 months like everyone did Obama’s 2008 usage of Gotham.

But you’ve changed. You’re no longer witty and fun, you’re trollish, tabloid and ugly. You’ve gone from representing the joyful parts of the Internet to representing the worst of journalism. You seem determined to lend legitimacy to conspiracy theories, flimsy research, and Huffpost/Drudge-like crap headlines all for this pretty young business model you’ve taken up.
