Santorum Attacks Romney For Avoiding The Press
“I take questions from the media every day.” Romney’s media lockdown becomes an issue.
TRAVERSE CITY, Michigan—Rick Santorum attacked his leading rival for avoiding the press and the public on campaign stops, saying Mitt Romney is hiding from the American public.
“I don’t hide from the public, I don’t hide from the media. I take questions from the media every day,” he said, just before taking questions from voters.
Romney has notoriously avoided uncontrolled moments with the press, holding his last press availability two and a half weeks ago.
“I don’t have structured events where only my friends are in front of me to take questions,” Santorum continued, alluding to Romney’s invitation-only Ford Field address to the Detroit Economic Club last week.
NBC’s David Gregory pointed out that Romney has declined repeated invitations to appear on Meet the Press, as he has many national interviews.
